Just for a laugh!

In addition to RA, I have peripheral neuropathy in both legs. Went to a meeting yesterday about PN headed by a nurse. I mentioned I take methotrexate and she asked what for. I said for my RA. Believe it or not, she said, “what’s RA?”

I don’t know if anyone noticed the incredulous look on my face but I had all I could do to keep from calling her all kinds of stupid.

If you said RA instead of rheumatoid arthritis she may not know what the abreviation stands for. For many years now nurses have had it drummed into them not to abbreviate as it can be misunderstood.

She was an ER nurse. Married to a doctor. You’re being generous. But her lack of understanding is unfortunately worldwide.

I simply said it’s rheumatoid arthritis and she said oh and looked embarrassed. I didn’t say more. Maybe she’ll research more on it and be “the one” to bring attention to it. We can only hope.

Yeah - I was sent to P/T to see if they could figure out why my thigh has swollen, and when I told the Therapist I have RA and Sjogrens, she was totally confused. Hmmm

Just goes to show the importance given to RA in nurse education. I despair.

Maybe if we all post something about this in social media it will find some notice.
