Changing Rheumatology Clinics ?

Hi everyone, first of all I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who replied to my post about supportive footwear, particularly in the summer months. Lots of info, thank you all.

Now I have another question which you might have an answer to. Podiatrist and Orthotics was suggested to me along with footwear. So, I asked the Clinical Nurse about an appointment to both Podiatry and Orthotics. She gave me a leaflet for Podiatry Access with all details in it including a phone number. But, I soon discovered that I live out of area to be able to attend the clinic in question. However, I was given some phone numbers by the person I spoke to, for Podiatry Clinics in my own catchment area. After phoning one of two of these numbers I found that it was difficult because my Rheumatology Clinic is not in their area !! I think it will be easier to get referred to different Rheumatology Clinic in my area !!

By the way, the hospital where I attend Rheumatology Clinic is the nearest one to where I live !! But, that's the way it can work out, I suppose. :( :(

Hi,

If your happy with your rheumy then maybe discuss the referrals with the GP and maybe they can refer you to the clinics in your area(?)

It is usually possible to be referred to another podiatry clinic. It certainly is around here and it's a 'cross border' referral from Wales to England.

I think if you’re happy with your rheumy care then don’t move clinic. Go and see your GP they should be able to put you in touch with a podiatrist and should have the relevant leaflets or details at the surgery where you are registered. If it was me I definitely wouldn’t move rheumatology clinic.

Thank you all for your much appreciated advice. I think I will go and see my GP and take it from there.

Oldtimer, you obviously live not too far from me !

My RA Clinic is in Bridgend, but I do attend Breast Clinic at Llandough Hospital.

All the best to you all.
