Hi has anyone tried Voltarol pain relief on joints? and did it give some relief? Thank you..

I've been taking voltarol since 1991 with no problems. Simply put, I can't manage without it. I have widespread degenerative OA for which it has given great relief, that no other NSAID has been able to provide (or I can't tolerate.)

Care is required as it carries some cardiovascular risks.

I'm like you here use lt like hand cream on my hands and feet as I don't know what else to do . It doesn't help with my hip and back though 🤗

I have found that at the highest dose, 2.32%(?), it helps the OA in my knee, but not really found that it gives any relief when PsA flares - nothing touches that pain! ☹️ But it’s maybe worth a try, as we are all different and respond differently to treatments, and of course check with your health care team in case of any contraindications.

Just to clarify in light of others’ replies, I was referring to Voltarol gel, not oral medication which I haven’t tried (can’t take oral NSAIDs). There are also other gels available on prescription which might be worth investigating, if that’s what you’re asking about.

Did you mean the Voltarol gel-cream? That works wonders on my knees both the joints and soft tissue. I don't take oral anti-inflammatories so haven't tried the tablets.

I didn’t realize it comes in tablet form. Learn something new all the time.

Yes you have to be careful and as others have said, as it is Diclofenac. I use the gel when I really need to be mobile and have a very busy day, etc. I wouldn't take oral Diclofenac. It is too strong for my stomach. My GP won't prescribe it actually. There are also Voltarol adhesive thermal patches.

If youre on oral drugs you must check first as can overdose very easily. I cant use it as take medication and you cant mix. I use FLEXISEC which works and is drug free. From Lloyd's pharmacy, boots and some tesco now. Look for when on offer as it regularly is. Ive used for years and it is highly recommended by consultants.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work for me but then nothing but steroid injections have really helped. I did get something called Flexiseq which did help only slightly above Voltarol but not enough to give me total pain relief but the reason I mention it is because I do know a few people who use it & swear by it as it has changed their lives so might be worth giving that a go. It is gel & isn't cheap about £18 for a single tube but if you search you can get them cheaper if you purchase a few tubes at the same time. I think I got 3 for £12 each. Hope you find something that works there is nothing worse than constant pain

A few people have mentioned voltarol gel. I assumed you meant voltarol tablets, which have a systemic effect, helping all joints.

The gel will only help small joints like fingers or toes, were it can permeate to the joint. It is generally not useful on large joints like knees or hips.

I find the gel definitely helps my knees and ankles so I guess depends on the person.

You can get stronger ibuprofen gel (5%) from your GP . It works quite well for me.

Yes! A shortage of Naproxen has forced doctors to prescribe diclofenac (Voltarol) instead. This is great news 😊 as I’ve always found it works better without the stomach problems - though as I’m continuing taking the PPI Omezaprole 20mg, I can’t be sure if course. I do know doctors feel enteric coated naproxen doesn’t have much extra stomach protection, but not so diclofenac (which always seems to come EEC coated, though I’m not sure about the pifflingly small amount in the P category nor the 75mg which I was only ever prescribed once, years ago.

The fact is diclofenac has been found to be slightly more likely to cause heart disease and for long term use Naproxen is recommended. However I took Celebrex until it was withdrawn, being in my early 40’s and very fit. However, they cannot prescribe what they haven’t got 😀 and after an ECG plus echocardiogram (for other reasons) where nobody could find anything wrong, I’m not too bothered how long this shortage lasts!

Hi, I have tried voltarol for various joint & muscular problems and found it to be useless. I use instead an Ibuprofen 5% gel at a fraction of the cost and get some relief from pain. Try it it's available at most pharmasist's.

Strange as nothing in tablet form works for my knees like Voltarol gel does. We are all different in our responses.

Yes I have had voltoral in the past and was very successful in keeping going.

BUT you really must be careful about taking it with or after food as I didn’t..too busy and now I’m paying the price.Cant take any anti inflammatories and taking meds for rheumatoid has to be taken by injection instead of oral meds.So be careful you may exchange one problem for another.Good Luck..
