I've seen lots of times where the abbreviation RD has been used, and did not know how to decode it. So finally this morning I googled it, and first entry I looked at was this one at rheumatoidarthritis.net/liv...

I found it very enlightening, and thought I would share it with you all.

I did try to find the "abbreviations" section on this site, but it seemed to be hiding today. I know it's there somewhere cos I've seen it a couple of times.....perhaps someone could remind me how to get to it?

Cheers, and have a good day.

Hello Hezekiah. I think that some people just use RD for rheumatoid disease instead of RA for rheumatoid arthritis. It is appropriate because the disease has so many widespread effects: Not jut swollen painful joints but damage to lungs, heat, eyes, tendons so the general term RD is probably better for those unfortunate to not just be affected in their joints. I hope this comment helps?

I prefer and use RD, it is more meaningful to my understanding of the disease.

I think the Abbreviations list is missing because more recent Pinned Posts have been added to the list by the Admin team. If you look to the right of the heading Pinned Posts there's See all >, tap on that & it will appear.

I've used RD rather than RA for 5 years now, my Rheumy team too & find it much better understood because people don't confuse it or misunderstand it for the more common Arthritis Osteo. I have both & OA can be blinking painful if not properly addressed, generally though it's not known that whilst RD is a form of arthritis it's different & autoimmune.

Thanks nomoreheels but I've followed your helpful instructions (as best I can) but still can't see Abbreviations (or is it Acronyms?). No matter. I'm sure it will re-appear at some point.

Reckon you're right to use RD, and the essential word is your last one - autoimmune. That makes clear the difference for me.

Maybe it's what you're working from. I'm on my iPad but it's not as visible on my iPhone. I've copied the link for you healthunlocked.com/nras/pos...

How about bookmarking it to refer to?

#Thank you nomoreheels - it did later occur to me that I should have asked for a link, and you've now provided it without me even having to ask. Thanks again. Don't worry I won't lose it this time.

My Rheumatologist here in the UK now calls it RD.

That's good thelmar, as it seems to be useful to help distinguish between non-autoimmune arthritis and autoimmune .
