Hi everyone

I’m 31 years old and got diagnosed with RA 5 years ago.

I’ve just had a shoulder replacement and been suffering terribly with a bad back.

An MRI scan has shown u have sacroilitisvabd early erosion of the joint. Just wondered if anyone had any experience suffering with this what medication/things help?

I really don’t want it to get worse.

I currently take methotrexate hydrochloride naproxen and folic acid.

Thanks x

Hi, I've also got sacroiliitis and what helps me most is movement/walking and going swimming. I also try to avoid sitting for too long in general and when it's really bad I put an ice pack on it which eases the acute pain. I spent every morning doing a few easy back stretches and that has helped loads with the stiffness and the pain. I've also noticed that naproxen helps a little but isn't as effective for this issue compared to pain in the hands for example. So maybe this helps you a little...

Hi there , i had terrible pain when i had sacroiliac probelms , it greatly effected my mobility. I had physio which didn’t help unfortunately, i then had a guided steroid injection which really helped and i have not had sacroiliac pain since . This type of steroid injection should be done under guidance as it is safer

Sorry to hear your RA eroded your shoulder joints so quickly. Hope surgery goes well and you have the desired outcome.

Hi Mrs.C,, I know this is not an answer to your question but I hope you don’t mind me asking you about your shoulder replacement. A year ago I fell over onto my shoulder and ruptured two tendons. The pain was quite bad but with physio it improved and was getting better. However in the Autumn, it got much worse and it is now almost unbearable and I can’t do anything with it. If it try to lift it up the pain makes me shout out and it feels like my arm and shoulder will break. I had some MRIs done on it but don’t have the results yet. I think it might indicate having a shoulder replacement and I wondered if you could tell me a bit about yours and if it worked well for you? Thank you for reading this.

Yes I've got the same issue when it's bad. It wakes me up at night and then I need to move around to ease it a little but as soon as I lie down it starts burning again. When it's that bad I make sure that I go to the swimming pool every day to just walk around and I do little stretches in the water. I don't sit for longer than 45 minutes and I also do my back stretches just before lying down in bed. Putting a pillow between the knees also eases the pain and sleeping on the non painful side seems to help.

Also, to see the inflammation in an mri you need to have a certain frequency (STIR). So I'm wondering whether you might not have had that..

Thanks for your reply very useful ideas for me.

I’m not sure what you mean regarding MRI.

MRI indicated erosion changes in the joint

Hi mrsc2403 I'm glad I was able to help. I've just remembered that I also see a chiropractor on a regular basis to prevent the joint from being very painful in first place and that seems to keep it at bay. So that might be something for the long run. I didn't want to confuse you with regards to the mri. That was meant for whaleroad. I didn't make that clear.

I had pretty unbearable pain, especially when I flared. Pain doc has put me on a very low dose of amitriptaline which has really helped.
