Where to buy metoject

Hi everybody!

I’m new to this group. I have found it last night due to the lack of sleep and immediately got caught in some of the discussions where I found useful information and got my heart refilled with joy because of the support you give one another. I wish I had found this group four years ago when I was diagnosed with RA and was so scared and felt like my life was over. I am 30 now and still alive ) and it turned out there is something more to be lived after and beside RA. And I am very grateful for this.

I live in Moldova, a non EU country. I have taken methotrexate metoject from the beginning and I still take it, 7,5 mg weekly now.

We do not have metoject in our country. I was able to take it thanks to the help of a couple of very good friends from France that are both doctors (not rheumatologists) and they supply it for me for four years already, every month. I feel very blessed and thankful to have had this unconditional help when I struggled the most.

Now I am thinking I don’t now how long will I need to take this medicine and I want to be able to buy it myself. Yes, I am hugely thankful for the help I got. Knowing I can take a good medicine (then the once on our market) was very hopeful giving. But I feel I need to deal this by myself now for how long and how it will be. If this makes any sense.

If someone of you is familiar with such a situation, do you know if there is an international online shop for metoject? Can you buy it online?

Thank you,

Tatiana

This is a very powerful medicine. Its is essentially a form of low dose chemotherapy, however effective it is it is not without risk. May I ask how you are getting your liver function and blood tests monitored?

I did not explain this but of course I am being monitored by a rheumatologist doctor in Moldova. She prescribed me methotrexate with folic acid the next tree days after injection. I am taking it under her supervision. First two years or so I used to take blood tests ones in a month, now I am taking them ones in three months if I feel good or more often if there is a change in the way I feel.

Ah, that make it clearer. I'm relieved that you are under the watch of a rheumatologist .

I'm sorry, I don't know where else to source metojet pens from and certainly wouldn't recommend buying any medication over the internet.

Can your rheumatologist be of any help? I expect you are not the only person in this position.

We have MTX pills on the market, from Ebewe Pharma, if this tells you something, we also have MTX solution from a local pharmaceutical company but my doctor does not recommend using the last one. About metoject she told me I can buy it in Europe but only with a prescription from a local doctor. I have tried to buy it in Amsterdam while on a trip, with a prescription from Moldova and it did not work.

I know it is a serious medication and you can not buy it that simple. But I thought i’d ask ) who knows )

Thank you for your reply!

Thats such a shame because I found the injections so much better than the tablets because of side effects. Good luck with your quest!

Hiya Tatiana, welcome. I'm pleased your disturbed night was actually helpful in finding us & that you find it a helpful resource. I'm also pleased to hear you do well on MTX injections. Not only is it a positive for you it's helpful for others who are about to or have just started MTX to hear that it helps control your RD & it wasn't the end of life as you knew it.

As you probably realise the people on this site are in the main based in the UK with the NRAS being a UK based charity. That said we do have some members from further afield though I think you may be the first from Moldova. I must say your English is very good, certainly better than my Moldovan which is zero!

I'm not sure if any of our searches in the UK would result in being able to provide the name of an online Pharmacy for MTX. I believe MTX can be bought online but it would be only tablets that are available, possibly an option? You'll realise that MTX injections are a cytotoxic medicine & in liquid form (for subcutaneous use) so even though you've been fortunate enough to have it supplied & posted to you by your friends to date I'm not sure of the legalities of doing so by post or carrier. Therefore whilst I'm aware MTX tablets are available to buy online I'm not sure the same could be said for injections because of them being a hazardous/toxic medicine & listed under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health, Regulations 2002. This of course is in place should anyone come into contact with any spilt liquid.

I'm sorry if this causes problems for what you wish to do but I do think it's something you'll need to research yourself from Moldova so I think the best thing for you to do is try searching online.

Have you tried asking your Rheumatologist? It could be knowing that MTX injections aren't available there he has alternate options for you. With him being aware you inject MTX he may know where you could buy it from if he has other patients using it.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful on your first post but hope you enjoy being here with us. 😊 We have run out zero panel hello

Hi nomoreheels,

I like the funny irony in your name and I guess you are a heels lover, I am too)

Yes, metoject turned out to be a good medicine for me despite some side effects. The first two years with it went almost with no side effects.

I thought most of the members are from UK but as I got here from abroad maybe someone else did too...

I have asked my rheumatologist and she told me that metoject is more efficient and more tolerable then the pills we have on our market but unfortunately she could not advise where to buy it outside pharmacies in Europe but you need a prescription from a local doctor to buy it there. A prescription from Moldova does not work.

Thank you for your advise, yes, I will try to search more online.

And thank you for complimenting on my English, this is nice to hear)

It has been commented on before, others have said they can relate to it! Fortunately since choosing it I've been able to wear heels once more, though not as high as I could pre RD!

I've been on MTX nearly 10 years, 9 by injections & as you'll gather has proved to be a good med for me too. I hope you're able to find someone who can supply it to you, it would be a shame to have to change because of being unable to buy it. We're fortunate here in that we have no such supply problems, many more would be in the position you're in if we did. Maybe your friends wouldn't mind continuing to supply you monthly, though I understand why you're wanting to source them elsewhere it would save you a lot of trouble.

Your Rheumy is correct, it does tend to be more efficient & tolerable, often we change to injections if we have side effects on the tablets. I hope you find a way to continue on them, quite how I'm not sure because of needing a Rheumy to prescribe in the country you'd buy it, unless you move but that's a bit extreme! I wish you luck anyhow.

Have you tried contacting the manufacturers and asking them?

The one I use is manufactured by Metoject. They seem to be available in Hungary, so maybe possible to arrange to have your precription filled there?

Here's a link to the website

Hello,

Thank you for your reply,

I have looked on their website before for information about online shops but did not find any so I put it aside.

But it’s a good idea to contact and ask them, I have nothing to loose. I will try this.

Hi Tatiana! I live in Russia and sometimes it's hard to find Metoject here too. Besides, the newer forms of it where it's less diluted started making me pretty sick at one point. My rheumotologists advised trying two more brands:

- Metortrit (Romania) - this one if the cheapest of the three and easiest to find, and though that made me skeptical at first I have actually found it the easiest to tolerate.

- Methotrexate Ebewe (Austria) - I've only taken three of these so far because I'm experimenting with finding the brand I like best, but the prefilled injections and pens are pretty good too. It is also much, much easier to find than Metoject.

Make sure to consult with your doctor to learn what they think about these manufacturers, but my experience has been good, especially in the same situation where Metoject isn't the easiest thing to purchase.

Good luck!

Hi Anastasia! And thank you very much for your reply! It is really very useful and I can perfectly relate to it.

I will discuss with by doctor to know her opinion on this two brands.

I have read your post on pregnancy and on taking or not MTX while having a cold and I perfectly understand what you are going through as I have and still put this questions myself. I remember my dilemma with taking or not MTX while having a cold, taking antibiotics or other medicine at the same time and my rheumatologist was not available and I did not know about this group ... ahhh there were situations in the past I was so desperate I did not know what to do ...
