Wrist support

Please could anyone recommend a wrist support/splint? I’ve had a few promedics splints from rheumatology appointments but they don’t last long at work before they split where the metal bar is. Thank you 😊 Has anyone tried this (photo attached) ?

Hi Dawnymat, I have bought some from Complete care shop before. They do neoprene ones or thick fabric stretchy type ones, I’m not sure if this is the type you are wearing. I’ve tried ones from other places but they don’t seem to last as long. I mostly use the neoprene as they wash and dry quickly. Good luck finding some to suit you.

Thank you, I’ll look into those, washing and drying quickly would be helpful 😊

My first were supplied by OT but they don't wear well. I'd also recommend those at the Complete Care shop. Lots to choose from. In fact it's my go to place & usually find what I need & at the best price too. ☺️

I've bought from the Care Shop & Amazon...I like their black splints in the Winter, they don't look as clinical as the pink ones.

Thank you, I think I’ll order black. Sometimes the light get too dirty even after washing.

The pink ones remind me of granny's corsets!

They never come up the same do they? Also they fray round the edges.

Yes, they’ve been splitting where the metal bar is too 😬

Darker colours hide a multitude of sins plus the ones supplied by OT remind me of getting National Health glasses as a child. Is it just me?! 😝

Yes, they do seem a bit like that 😆

I wear these bad boys. I prefer heavyweight wrist supports with metal D-rings as they look really macho and remind me of my punk rocker days. Don't think they'd look so good on females though. I'm sure mine were close on twice the price when I bought them a year or two ago. :-(

I take that to mean you're not interested in ordering a pair then! Sometimes I wonder why I even bother! :-O ;-)

Oye, don't be cheeky heelsy! Extra large is a tight fit on my pair of shovel sized mitts I'll have you know!

Dr arthritis on Amazon which are black and easy to adjust ..i find much more comfortable than anything else especially with something underneath . I chop the straight bit off old socks & cut a hole for thumb.

I’ve always got mine from my physio or occupational therapy nhs team. You can ask for a few at a time if you wear them out quickly. The only good think about that is your PT or OT team can customise them for you. If you buy off the internet you can’t try before you buy x

That’s what I’ve been using but they haven’t been great. Just want something a bit better, they just don’t last well at work x

I swear by the Futuro brand. The wrist stabilizer deluxe is long with several Velcro straps for easy adjusting. All the others haven’t done the job - not enough support. I have one for each wrist.

I do have a custom one my dr did when I was first diagnosed that is molded to my arm and you wrap with an ace bandage - it’s like a half of an arm cast - but I only use this when I’ve misplaced the Futuro.

Thank you I’ll have a look at that brand 😊

I got some for wearing in the day when required, from the OT at the hospital and she made me one for sleeping in, I just have to have the other one made for my left hand/wrist so I have both to sleep in.......

Might be worth seeing if you can get an OT referral ?

Thank you, it’s for work I need them the most, I’ve had lots from OT but they fall apart really quickly, I just want something that lasts longer using them everyday 😊

oh ok, the ones I have from the OT are Promedics ones product code is : TRSV/25 like the link below only better quality.I use them most days and had them for a few months now, they wash well too ......perhaps you could see if your OT does this ones as an alternative ? Unless these are the ones you have tried.?

It’s the promedics ones I have from OT, I’ve tried a few for work but they all haven’t lasted long. That’s why I wanted to try another type 😊

I actually work for Promedics and the ones the NHS order are basic and cheap. They also make some really good ones, they do a vast range of wrist braces, but I guess I'm lucky, l can customise mine to suit myself.

That is lucky. 😊 Yes, the ones I’ve been given don’t last long 😬
