Embrel and Pregnancy?

Hi All, happy new year. I hope you are all doing ok.

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of staying on Enbrel during pregnancy in the 1st and 2nd trimester?

My consultant said that I was able to stay on it and it says it’s ok on the NRAS website, but I have read some studies from America and Other countries where it was said to increase birth defects during pregnancy and it’s now got me really worried.

I’m currently 7 weeks pregnanct which me and husband can’t quite believe as we thought it would never be possible to have another child. My RA came on suddenly in every joint after my daughter was born six and a half years ago. It took a while to settle down after the birth but once I was on the right medication I’ve been quite well and hence why we have thought a lot about having another child.

my daughter has been on embrel for 15 years now and continued to inject for the first 2 trimesters with all 3 of her pregnancies. i now have 3 beautiful normal healthy grandchildren. talk to your rheumy nurse about your doubts, i am sure he/she will put your mind at rest.,. and congratulations

Congratulations! How lovely for you, though I get why you are concerned. I'm afraid I know nothing about RA drugs in pregnancy. My arthritis started a good few years after my son was born. I just wanted to wish you well.

Hi Claire. I’m from the USA and the USA tends to blow everything out of proportion because we have a lawyer every few steps you walk. Everyone is always afraid of getting sued so they put a warning on EVERYTHING. That being said, I do not know or have I heard anything about being on it during pregnancy, but I would go by what your doctor says and the experience of others. Congratulations!!
