So I just started the treamtment over 3 weeks ago I'm on methotrexate and I used to have a period before every 4 weeks but since I have been on this medication I am always on and just seem to be getting heaver each day anyone else have the same issues

It may be an idea to check your estrogene/ progesterone balance. Heavy periods may be a sign of too little progesterone. This can easily be fixed with supplementing with natural ptogesterone ( not synthetic). Mtx does effect the production of sex hormones. Hope you get it sorted soon. Simba

If you are having problems with heavy or irregular bleeding you should seek medical advice. Don't just put it down to methotrexate as it could be due to other causes and it needs investigation. You are using contraception anyway aren't you? It is advised that you shouldn't get pregnant while on methotrexate.

I had this happen when I went on methotrexate. It stopped when I came off. It’s not conclusive that it was the medication but it may work itself out with time. Methotrexate changes your body and can have quite an impact.

Above all, always report to your rheumy!

Hi Uzmah

MTX has had no effect on my periods. I don't recall it being on the side effect list. What does have an effect is when I have a flare and my steroids are increased to 15 or 20mg then my cycle dramatically shortens. Returning to normal once the dose is below 10mg again.

As suggested, go see your GP.
