Bursitis, anyone?

Hi to all. Wondering if anyone here has experienced bursitis, I seem to have it on both hips/top of thigh. Is it connected with rheumatoid, or just something extra I've got? GP gave me a steroid injection on one side, but it didn't really help. Opinions seem to be diffeent as to whether exercising is good/bad for it! But nothing seems to be helping and it's really sore especially in bed. Any thoughts much appreciated. S.

Yes, I have had in both hips. Trochanter bursitis. I had steroid into both bursae and they worked well. From what I have found, it is generally associated with a bad back and poor posture when walking. On the bright ide, although I first suffered this in 2015, I am, touch-wood, trouble free now. The injections both bruised a bit because they are deep into the hip muscle. A small price to pay!

Hi SL......Gosh I only have it in one hip & that is bad enough.i do agree it's particularly painful when lying down,

I find it comes & goes...for no apparent reason......because mine is one sided my foot surgeon reckons it has affected my knee...consequently I have developed a peculiar limp /gait which has given me pain in my lower back on the opposite side. I don't have OA in my hips, only in my hands....I don't know if Bursitis is affiliated to RA,but I have friends who have been diagnosed with it who don't have RA!

My Rheumy has offered me cortisone injections, but as the pain disappears as quickly as it comes, I'm holding off. The physio reckons gentle walking, .....not a mine mile hike (as if) should help.

Mine only appeared about 6 months ago.........so I am just hoping the next time it goes away....it stays away,

I had one and got it after I had a fall. Had steroid injections into it and some physio and it’s been fine since.

I had it in both hips at the start. I could hardly walk and I couldn’t lie on either side at night. I had a few well placed steroid injections over an 18 month period . It got a bit better after each one and now crossed fingers I don’t get it at all. My rheumatologist says it was trochanteric bursitis which is common in RA along with l’inflammation of the hip tendons. Still get that a bit! Hope another injection can sort it for you. I spose too it depends how well your treatment is working.

Hi I have been having bilateral steroid injections for trochanter bursitis for the past 12 years have them done around every six months . Yes they do Hurt but I have to confess they do so work . I’m not sure what happens long term I seem to be bilaterally being jabbed everywhere thumbs top and bottom of elbows and it does help . My gp makes me go 10 days between sides . Good luck 💐

Thanks everyone who's replied, all very interesting and helpful. I seem to be the only person that steroid jabs don't help, tho GP did say they only work about 60% of the time.... anyway thanks again.

I had a steroid jab that was guided by ultrasound. if they don't hit the exact spot, it is likely to less successful or even fail. Dosage is important as well.

Yes, I had it in the shoulder and so have others on here. Sometimes the tendons are affected by RA, not just the joints.
