I didn't think that NSAIDs increased risks of cancers. They can affect kidney function, but that's entirely different from a cancer. And I think kidney cancer is extremely common, sadly. But also one of the more curable ones so I have my fingers crossed for you.

It says they can contribute to cancer in the booklet I have been given from the hospital!

If that's what the hospital have said then I guess it must be supported by evidence or they wouldn't say it! Do they explain what"contribute" means tho'? As it's not the same as "cause".

But really the important thing for you is not to look back at "what ifs", but focus on getting cured.

Have you asked your doctors this question? When I was diagnosed with cancer my oncologist told me not to look back, but to concentrate on getting better.

That was 13 years ago & she was quite right.

So JB, look forward & don't worry about what is past.

Thanks for this advice I will it’s strange how you try to make sense of what you cannot control I am still in shock

It took me quite a while to accept my diagnosis as I didn't feel ill...it just showed up after having a biopsy.

We all deal with a cancer diagnosis differently......I had the " bull in a china shop" approach - I didn't want the offered leaflets to read, or counselling, I just wanted to get on with whatever treatment was going to give me the best chance to get rid of it.

Very good luck with your treatment.......it is a hard path to tread, but many of us beat it & so will you! I'm sure having a positive attitude helped me to get through it.

I only know that anti inflammatory taken for long periods can cause serious problems within.

Yes that’s true if I had know that I would not have taken them

I thought it was just heart and stomach problems.

They are very strong and can and do cause multiple problems.

I have my suspicions that anti-inflammatories, namely vioxx, were the cause of a heart attack I had 12 or more years ago.

Except for the odd one when having a bad flare, I've avoided them ever since.

I had those but within two months and then it was taken off the market, may have been a blessing and for the short time I took them, they really helped my hands and then I could work because they helped.

It sure was a blessing! I think that stuff was responsible for many deaths back then. Pity as it was a very effective with my RA.

The price we have to pay sadly, I dare say that one day they will tell us about the cures they already have, they don’t want to cure us lol, because they make millions from us.

Not sure about ibuprofen but anti inflammatory has left me with cronic kidney disease. I'm the same if I was told I wouldn't have taken anti inflammatory. Hope u get sorted x amy

Kidney damage is one of the things listed as a risk in the leaflets that come with them. We are stuck between a rock and a hard place as all drugs carry some risks which is why it's so important we are involved in our treatment so we can decide what risks we are prepared to take.

Everything we do carries a risk - driving a car, texting while you are walking down the stairs, eating shellfish. So we need to understand how to evaluate it. This is a useful article about risks

My daughter only has one kidney as she donated a kidney to her brothers wife 3 years ago. The kidney specialist said she must never take ibruprofin as it damages kidneys. He more recently said she must not take naproxen. Her gp had prescribed it for back problems even though she asked if it was ok with only one kidney.( the kidney consultant was quite angry about that!) Sue
