12 Months on Methotrexate

Following on from my post a year ago..

Can confirm that while the last 12 months havnt been without problems, ie infections, bronchial pneumonia & acute bronchitis, not to forget that awful “Aussie flu” I am managing my RA a lot better with the help of medication.

Methotrexate injections, sulphasalazine & naproxen have given me my life back

I would say 70% of the time, the biggest drawback being the fatigue which is considerable at times.

I do try & follow the “spoon system” but 9 times out of 10 I use them all up & crash & burn big time.. call it “ work in progress” lol as I am slowly coming to terms with this but as I am a person who hates to give in it is a challenge!

On top of this I have gained a stone in weight which gets to me

But again I think I feel a trip to join Slimming

World is coming on after my next holiday.. can’t have it all ways but I do hold those pesky steroid injections when I was at my worst to blame for this! 🙈

On the negative side my feet are getting worse & seem to change shape

Suddenly.. ie shoes that fit me last week either do not fit me this

week or suddenly feel too

Big.. I can see me taking a dozen pairs on holiday plus I now have a “Morton’s neuroma” under my left foot which gives me gyp!

All in all I just want to say for all you guys & gals starting your RA journey that there is light at the end of the tunnel , you will have some easier days, you will learn to cope with the pain & hopefully life will get a lot better for you all.. 💕😘

I'm so glad to hear that someone else has this problem with having to have shoes of different sizes for different days - although sorry that you are sharing the problem. I can't get the rheumatologist to understand how badly my feet affect my life. He just looks at my hands.

The Nuroma is easy to treat ask for a referral to get a steriod injection and if that does'nt work then its a small operation. I've had many injections and 3 removals and back in October a removal of the bony overgrowth and toes straightened. No pain and great matching feet. I can wear what I like and that includes heels. So don't just put up with it go and see GP to get something done. Your worth it !! x

Don't worry about the injection they are done guided by scan but its only a temorary fix. Painless though and ask for numbing cream as well. Only real 'cure' is the operation to remove. So if the jab does'nt work, don't delay go back to Orthopedic Surgeon not a podatrist.
