Hi Guys,

Hope you are all doing good.

I need some advice before bothering my Rheumy.

I have been on Sulphasalazine for 3 months now and so far so good. No pain or horrible nausea that I had when taking MTX.

My issue is that the skin on both my arms is rough and risen. Like lots of tiny pimples. I also bruise for no reason and they take an age to go away.

Is this a normal reaction to the new meds?

I would tell your rheumatologist. I had all sorts of other issues with sulfasalazine, but not skin problems and bruising.

Always safer to check up with bruising and rashes.

Does your hair fall out? Mines falls out all the time, but not from the root, its like it breaks. My hairdresser could tell I was on new meds.

Quite a combination being on both MTX and Sulph. I couldn't tolerate MTX in neither tablet form or injecting. 7 months of torture when I was on it. It took over my life. I'm really hoping its the new meds thats helping me and not still the steroid injection I got when I started them!

Fingers crossed 🤞

Yes I had long thick hair and my hairdresser said it’s getting thinner. But I’ve noticed when I brush or wash it how much I’m losing. It was very dry now it seems to be getting back to normal But still losing I’m hoping it stops soon x

My rheumi is considering putting me on sulfasalazine and gave me a leaflet on it. It says you should contact your doctor if you have unexplained bruising so think you should probably get it checked. Hope all goes well, Neannie

Yes, I had a noticeable skin reaction, almost as if the skin on my face had been burnt. I have a peanut allergy and my rheumy had warned me I might have an allergic reaction. I left it alone and it calmed down, but I seem to have eczema on hands and face now since I've been on it.

I had to come off it,couldn't sleep, also I had to have my bloods done every two weeks, worth mentioning it to the nurse.
