All illusion s destroyed- second attempt!

Sorry, fingers not working so posted last - post - before writing!

I have always been under the illusion, that although I look shocking on land, ( weird clumsy walking before I collapse into my wheelchair or mobility scooter), I look awesome- dolphin like- in the swimming pool.

Yesterday I was swimming up n down ( OK not how I used to look, but still. I got up and down a 20m pool 80 times. I ran and walked up and down. I swam using various new made up strokes) and I even took a moment to smile to myself that when I got out everyone in the pool would be shocked to see that such a lithe swimmer would stagger, with stick, back to the changing rooms. ( vanity. All is vanity)

As I got to the changing rooms a woman stopped me and asked me if I'd had knee operations. I explained. She said ' I was watching you in the pool love. You looked in so much agony.' She went on to tell me that she was glad I persevered when being in water was obviously so difficult. Ha ha ha. And I thought I looked like a dolphin. A swan. Oh well xx

Hi LizzieR, Keep with the feeling you had, that’s all that matters. Take the joy where you can. Candy

This made me giggle Lizzie 😂. Well done you for giving it your best shot. I'm sure you do swim like a dolphin. She was just envious of your stamina and made up moves. x

Did you push her in??: :-)

I stopped wearing black costume as I was fearful I'd be harpooned! I now wear a polka dot one with a little skirt attached. I'm sure I look stunning! :-) I don't care.

Climbing up and down those steps to get in and out of pool is a nightmare. I'm not elegant. But I love swimming. Good for us eh!!

I use a pool with long sloping steps. Chose it on purpose. But I'm still not elegant lol. X

I bed you look gorgeous! More dolphin ( like me!) Than whale. I should have pushed her in lol. X

Dear LizzieR

You are a dolphin and swan in the water. Only a dolphin could do 80 lengths.

I find well meaning " kind remarks" can be the most hurtful because they are so blunt and personal. Leaving you feeling v exposed?

Keep swimming . The freedom it gives is the best thing! Swans are gracious and wonderful . Enjoy the freedom and smile.

She was just jealous, and saying something obviously untrue to get over her envy of your dolphin like aura.

Lol. That must have been it! X

I'm sure you looked utterly amazing and were channelling your inner dolphin exquisitely. Stupid woman obviously forgot her specs. Take no notice and go on enjoying your keep fit sessions. Hugs

Lol I think 'amazing' isn't quite the word, but you are very kind! Thank you x

PS Find a warm pool, with sloping stairs and a warm changing room. Use the disabled facilities. Have someone push you ( in a wheelchair! Not randomly...) and help you with bags/ lockers etc and getting there. Make yourself! Being in the pool- even just floating- is amazing. The pool I go to has a steam room as well and it is fabulous for screaming joints. Go for it! X

Its in my plan. We went to a hotel in the autumn with a pool and it didnt go at all well. I told Rheumy and he said not to worry about it as it was too early. I was disapointed as swimming and cycling are the exercises for me. Im putting weight on so must do something. Gone back to feeling like im pushing through treacle again when I move in past 2 weeks. There is a pool 5 mins away but no slope and changing rooms are chilly so will travel about 15mins for one with a slope and I think 15mins is close. I just am bit nervous about going so was very impressed by you.

It is terrifying! It took me a long time so take it slowly and be kind to yourself! I know the treacle thing well! Before and after swi!mming is also tough going. You'll get there though. Sending you good swimming vibes! X

They've shut the two swimming pools nearest to us and it will be years before they are replaced. Our nearest is 5 miles away and although it looks good I'm going to have to stop being a wuss and try it out.

Try it out! But take some one with you if you can. I find it's the so called 'small things' that kill you- trying to do the locker, moving bags, getting from the pool to the changing room!! And make sure there is nothing to do when you get home except lie on the sofa feeling fit and self righteous! X Go for it x

If you had seen some of the sights I saw in the rehabilitation pool at my hospital, I was amazed at the amount of people who can’t even swim, keep at it girl you doing great.
