I didn't have high blood pressure either until I went on Leflunomide alongside my methotrexate and I'm now on Ramipril too. I dumped the Leflunomide but the blood pressure problems stayed! The doses are slowly creeping up, started on 2.5mg then 5, 7.5 and now 10mgs. M x

Hi ya, I have silly B/P which results in having to take Ramipril 5mg a day but if I take it all at once bp drops through the floor, so it was agreed that I could split it so I now take 2.5mg in the morning and 2.5 before bed and that seems to do the trick. I was told my b/p wasn't stable enough for leflunomide, my B/P can be normal most of the time then suddenly be very high(usually when I see white coat)apparently. I'm on 20mg inj Methotrexate. hopes this helps.

I've had RA for 15 years and been taking 2.5mg 0f Ramipril for the last 12 years. During that time I've been on methotrexate, leflunomide, hyrdroxychloroquine and enbrel. My blood pressure has remained steady throughout.

Hi Nuttyshirlz

I’ve been taking methotrexate Hydroxy and Leflunomide for ten years it’s not got my RA under control and I do struggle a lot I’ve had high blood pressure for years and recently my GP changed my BP meds aa my legs were swollen about four times their normal size he changed my meds and put me on Ramipril and after three weeks of taking them the swelling has gone

I was on methotrexate injections but had to stop after the third one due to severe reactions to it and put back on the tablets I take 28mg a week no side affects apart from being sick after taking them hope you’re not struggling to much sweetie

I've had RA for 7 years and have been on triple therapy for most of that time, and had no problems with blood pressure whatsoever. It has always been in the normal range. However about a year back my BP suddenly started rising, and I have ended up having to accept BP medicines. But nothing to do with having RA or the drugs for it. Just rotten luck, and mainly age related although seems that I have also developed a dodgy heart valve just like my dad.

I haven't given up hope that if I do more to adjust lifestyle I will be able to get it under control without more drugs, but haven't managed yet.

I have just started having high blood pressure but it started when I wasn’t on any medication but in a huge flare up. Strange as always had low blood pressure

I only have raised blood pressure in clinical establishments i.e. ‘white coat syndrome’, so I invested in an Omron M6 Comfort machine which I use at home periodically and always on the morning of all medical appointments. I keep a record of all readings and present it at all medical appointments.

My GP surgery had loaned me one of their several Omrons prior to my purchase but without instructions on procedures to be observed.

I have family history of high bp. Had unstable bp in my late 40s early 50s, changed my job and it went back to normal but now crept up a bit and now on losartin. I alao have my iwn machine so check it every now and then when its affecting my eyes. They have found heart murmur tho and say it could be rd related. With so many meds im surprised my bp not higher. As said with earlier life style change ie changed my job even tho i loved it, it was stressful, my bp much more stable and lower.

Thats my experience.

Hope you all are able to get some relaxation and enjoyment over this season.

My Bp shot up when I went on sulphasalazine to the point where I stopped taking it. I would check with rheumatology as it’s a fairly common side effect. If you didn’t have it before starting the drug I would question the cause unless something in your bloods points to it? Seems strange but if you’re happy taking ranipril and it’s not causing issues then maybe good for you. Good luck.

Ah makes sense! How frustrating for you. I would recommend some kind of meditation or mindfulness which is a daily thing and really helps with stress and therefore Bp. Always worth a go. 😀
