Heat for shoulder

I want to get my mother-in-law a heated shawl / pad for her shoulders . She is a tiny 87 year old and lately she is having pains in her shoulders and neck . Im looking for something that is quite light and soft , iam not sure if a microwave or electric one would be the best . Has anyone any ideas or possibly recommend one . She went through chemo a number of years ago and since then she feels the cold terribly. I could be quite tempted to get one myself 😀

I have a electric shawl and it is quite large and it is very warm and have six heat settings on it.You will have to look on the internet to see about getting one unless you know where you can get one in your area,xxxx

Thanks sylvi , I think i will need to look round the shops to feel the weight of it as if it is too big or heavy she wont use it as she is such a wee bird of a thing . She is a wonderful lady but she is not easy to buy for !

I have had a flick through some but reviews say some are quite heavy . Argos has one or two . There is a lovely garden centre up the road that had microwave ones in the gift shop .

Also at the moment there is a heated pillow/cushion on QVC (TV channel 16) that looks very cosy & your mil could just lie against it & wouldn't have to struggle to keep a hot Pad in place.

Microwave hot pads always seem heavy to me, & they go cold quickly, whereas the electric pads have a timer.

Good Luck....mil is lucky to have such a caring dil!

PS...look at complete care shop...loads of different heat pads at very good Prices!

I'm not sure one of the microwave ones will be quite as suitable as they don't stay warm long enough before you need to be reheating it. I have one that is smaller, more like a long sausage shape but it only stays warm about half an hour so I only use that first thing after my shower. I use that & the smaller pad every morning, they ease the stiffness in my neck & back just enough for me to get going! The electric ones have either 5 or 6 heat settings & all have auto cut-off's, each of mine turn off after they've been on for 90 minutes.

Around this time in December Lidl usually have them on their weekly offers, I posted about them & the foot warmer last year healthunlocked.com/nras/pos.... Amazon or Argos also have them, all vary in price so you'd have to shop around for the best deal or the most suitable.

The weight will be an issue as my mum in law wont tolerate it if too heavy as she is tiny and quite frail

Ah, with you, that is a consideration. Then the more the weight is spread the better it would be, maybe the third one then, the one that sits like a shawl could probably suit the bill best?

I bought from Boots a few years ago, a small heatpad about the size of a laptop. It is for use on backs, shoulders and tummies etc. You connect it to the mains,and it has an on/off switch on the cable. It cost about £20 and was situated in the area that has bandages and heat treatments. HTH.

I have an electric heating pad which I got from Amazon and it’s great. It runs itself off of it gets too hot. Lidl were doing really cheap ones but this was a few months ago and I’m not sure if they’re still in stock.

Just found out that mother in law would not wear anything that is plugged in to mains . I will have to go down microwave route . With the amount of snow she will have she might need it before Christmas!

I would get a lovely light weight wool pashmina and a small lavender and wheat back that can wrap over the back of the neck. Microwaved do not plugged in. Also you can now get hot water bottles that are lighter in weight. X

Thanks Jules , i will see if i can get fleece heat pack thats a bit wider . I know what I would like if i have the energy to go and look 😀
