My wrists have both fused naturally without surgery, but in a "drooped" position. I have very little movement in either. It wasn't until a new rheumatologist pointed out that had I been offered wrist fusion surgery much earlier, they could have fused them in a more upright position that I may have maintained some arm strength. Maybe ask your surgeon about the pros and cons of leaving them to fuse naturally v surgery? Good luck.

Hi I have had pain in mine for a few years but now they are partially fixed or were at x ray 2 years ago. For last six month or so pain has been severe in my area at moment rheumatology department are really struggling but was seen a month ago and given steroid injections into wrists which I think have worsened so was referred and seizing orthopaedic surgeon this morning so thinking may need fusion as I can't do much at all at the minute and constantly wearing splints 😩

Hi, my wrist fused spontaneously. I was supposed to have a wrist replacement earlier this year but my wrist had fused itself before I got there. The surgeon did an arthroscopy which cleaned out the rubbish in the joint. Since then I have to admit it has taken the awful toothache away. My wrist doesn't flex but that is something you can adjust to. Good luck whatever you decide.

Thanks for your reply I am having them fused alongside partial replacement they have been fixed quite a while anyway so hopefully not make that much difference to now apart from less pain 😩Can live in hope

Yes i had mine fused not sure how long ago it was before i was told i had RA but that was the start of it so must have been more than 15 years. It is well worth getting it fused and once you get over the op and get out of plaster it is really worth it .I could not do anything with it before it could not lift a spoon it will make a big difference good luck
