Sleeping

Hi. Hope everyone is as well as can be. I was wondering what you do to get a good night's sleep. This seems to be my biggest challenge at the moment. If i get to sleep easily i find myself waking up numerous times and struggle to get back. Any suggestions?

Try taking Niacinamide 2x500mg ( Vit B3) with a glas of warm milk with honey in the evening and you'll sleep like a baby. Vit.B nontoxic, doesn't interfere with meds. Worth a try😊

I drink a cup of chamomile tea at 8:30pm, no television after 9:00pm and in bed between 10:30/10:45pm and up in the morning at 7:30am. I also read before getting into bed.

It might help to try and work out what is waking you up.

It can be anxiety about your condition, about managing to do things and the future. It's worth writing down your thoughts and spending some time working through solutions - and it often helps to have some help with that from someone that you trust to be honest, and help you to find your own solutions.

If it is pain, then discuss that with your health care professionals.

If it is the stiffness causing problems with how you position yourself (I have to wake up to turn over, it's such a palaver) then consider how you might prop yourself with pillows to make yourself comfortable - there are lots of previous discussions about this on here if you put it in the search box.

And then there all the general things like not doing stimulating things just before going to bed, not drinking stimulants (or alcohol) and all the things called sometimes 'sleep hygiene' - and you could Google for that.

Thankyou old timer.lots of good points there. I am thinking of giving up work as i work 4 long days in a day nursery. Picking up babies is not the ideal job with sore hands.then I look at the money side of things (even though my health should come 1st ) and my boss is so understanding. Lots 2 think about. Thanks again and I'll keep you posted☺

I take something to help me sleep otherwise I'm awake all night but can make you a little drowsy the next day.

Hi. Yes doctor gave me 10ml amitriptyline but made me 2 drowsy at work next day so gave up 😕

I take 10ml amitriptyline which has really helped my poor sleep - I used to waken up loads of times throughout the night and was down to about 2-3 hours of sleep. It made me drowsy the next day to start with but that wore off quite quickly as I got used to it. It's great benefit is in keeping me asleep and if I do wake up I go back to sleep very quickly.

Might it be worth trying it again when you're not working the next day ?

hi- i do a mindfulness meditation in bed; i have recorded several lasting between 5 and 20 minutes onto an MP3 player, i then get as comfy as i can in bed and then listen through ear phones. i am someone who used to take hours sometimes to get to sleep, but this has worked for me (plus the exhaustion with the RA!) .
