Doctors again...........

Went to the drs last night and he has given me steroids. He also dropped into the conversation that i have had pneumonia. I wish they had told me that when they gave me antibiotics as i might Have done things differently,eg; go to bed during the day. The dr that gave me the second dose of antibiotics let slip that on my notes there is one word copd,I didn't realise this was on my my notes and i can only assume it is because of my asthma.

I have slept better and i feel brighter, though i am not out of the woods yet. You can't feel as ill as i have been and expect to get up the next day feeling well. Thank you all for asking after me and sending prayers.xxxxxx

So sorry to hear this. I somehow contracted pneumonia a few years ago, was given antibiotics, but it took a long time to get over. Take care of yourself and get plenty of rest. My Dad was diagnosed with COPD (emphysema) a year ago, but the docs didn't tell us until Feb this year, and they had not given any treatment (presumably because he is 92 yrs young). He is now on inhalers. Hope you start to feel better soon. xo

Apparently asthma comes under the copd umbrella, my dad had emphysema because of smoking longterm he was diagnosed at 65yrs when he retired and he was told to stop smoking,he told the dr its a bit late now. He lived until he was 71yrs old.

Yup, my Dad is still smoking at 92! Unfortunately, I have the nasty habit too and have tried on several occasions to stop, but I always restart - must have one or more screws loose! My Mum had COPD - asthma - and she went on to be 95.

You must stop darling as the damage it is does is lethal. I had a chest infection one year and the dr i saw said do you smoke,i said don't be silly i am watching my dad die from it. He said yes, cancer you either get better or die emphysemia is a living death and you know i have never forgoten his words.xxxxxx

Kay, not wanting to labour the point but smoking & RD aren't good bedfellows. I successfully gave up ciggies by vaping, recommended by my Rheumy (as opposed to smoking that is I should add). I don't know if you've tried it but NHS smoking cessation now support vaping as an option, it's not available on prescription like Champix, Zyban etc, which didn't work for me, but once medically licensed products are available they will be. I needn't have bothered going to smoking cessation for all those weeks once I discovered vaping & I'd smoked since college. If I'm honest even though I knew I should I really didn't want to give up my one vice/pleasure apart from choc that is, but I did. When I walk past someone who smokes it reminds me of how I must have smelt, not pleasant. I really don't think at 95 your Dad need worry! 😜

Vaping worked for me too, i had smoked since i was 11 (bad girl) I am now 64 and thanks to vaping i haven't smoked in nearly 3 years, saved a lot of money too. I didn't want to give up but finally realised i needed to.

Good! Yes, the money saved is just another thing that makes you realise how daft we were really!

Once again, take care of you. This might help distinguish between asthma & COPD allaboutallergy.co.uk/what-...

I would ask next time you see your GP why you have COPD on your record, what it is that determines you have it. x

I am allergic to some things which i had tested years ago so that does make sense to me. I think next time i have an appt at the drs. i am going to be refferred to the hospital.xxxx

No wonder you felt so awful. You're having no luck at the moment are you? Lets's hope the worst is behind you now and recovery is just around the corner. Don't you just love the casual casual way they give a diagnosis sometimes? I know it shouldn't make a difference, you feel equally rotten with or without being told what it is, but it does. At least it does to me. I only found a diagnosis of pneumonia had gone onto my record when it appeared on our travel insurance! How it got there I don't know. I sure as heck didn't say I had it. I also have COPD on my record. Stopped smoking over four and a half and nearly 10 thousand pounds ago. Hugs

I antibiotics were obviously not enough , glad steroids appear to be helping. Do you have an inhaler as well ? Best wishes xx

I hope you will be well soon, chest colds always cause pneumonia in me, so I know how you must be feeling. I have found that keeping the humidity level in your house at about 55% will keep cold germs away, but still be low enough to keep the joint pain from flaring.

Sending you healing thoughts and prayers!

I didn't realise asthma was one of the COPD family.

sylvi profile image
sylvi in reply to helenlw7

Well when you think about it it is logical. Asthma is in the lungs and COPD is all about the lungs.xxx

I also have bronchiecstasis and have been told that isn't COPD. It's all very confusing! Hope you feel better soon. Don't do too much!
