I heard of this remedy 30 years ago from s very elderly lady with very bad OA knees , she swore by it 😀
Not a lover of gin. Dark Rum or Whisky soaked raisins sounds like a tempting snack to me... haha 😁
I have to admit that I used to dislike the smell of gin - and I've already displayed my ignorance. I was so used to people drinking Gordon's and varieties that smelled strongly like perfume that I'd no idea such an array of genuine botanical delights exist!
I think some of the latest offerings smell like meadows ought to smell. And there's the sophisticated stuff like Hendricks, Sipsmith etc., never mind the small-batch artisanal distilleries for gin that now exist in places like Bristol.
You've just made me think that some of those gin-soaked raisins would be fabulous in a fruit salad or fruit cake or even just stuffing some baked plums or quinces.
Oh yes...mmm
I actually don't drink, but I'm thinking of starting! Gin soaked raisins seems a good place to start. It's fir scientific purposes!
Must be one of your five a day!
I'll volunteer for that clinical trial!!
Went to local specialist grog shop and asked chap to tell me about his gin...he had about thirty bottles!
`I want one with junioer berries,` I asked.
`Er madam. Gin is made with juniper berries!`
I didn't feel an idiot...much!
Anyway bought the gin and raisins. They are now soaking nicely.
I've read amazing reviews of this place and am planning to go there when next in Bath (likewise, I'm a non-drinker but I'm intrigued): bathchronicle.co.uk/whats-o...
I have a friend with OA who swears by this but apparently it has to be "golden raisins", not the regular kind of raisins and I've only found these to be available around Christmas time (they look more like large sultanas). V
Just to say that golden raisins are available in a fair number of 'whole food' shops and online. The following is one source but I know that there are lots of others: buywholefoodsonline.co.uk/n...
ETA: I only know this because I start mixing and baking my Christmas Cakes/Black Bun in March-June and that's why I buy golden raisins the year round Plus a lovely recipe for Christmas Jam for which I use golden raisins.
I got golden sultanas, its what I could find.
The gin I got has all sorts of botanicals in it. Quite delicious! I know what to give folks for Christmas. Raisins and gin!
No idea if the actual idea will work, but ten gin soaked raisins a day won't do any harm.
Which gin did you select? (Another teetotaller here and I don't trust my husband's palate )
Any Gin that has the words "London Dry" on the label is a true gin.
Teetotaller eh? Well think of a tea ball full of your tea leaves being placed in hot water. That tea ball is similar to a Carter head still used to make gin....So any gin made anywhere in the world that has the words "London Dry" on the label is a true gin, made from a Carter head still,no matter what the name of the brand..... All other Gins labeled "Gin" or "American Dry" is ...well similiar to the "squirts" of butter placed on your popcorn at the movie theaters...do you consider these "squirts" butter? lol....
Oooh. I haven't had gin for ages. I may have to try this and blame you
J
I couldn't wait the one week for the gin to soak right into raisins (oh come on! I've had a rough week!). I snatched a (small handleful) last night. Oh my word...soo delicious!
The sweet, juicy scrumptiousness was like little angels tap dancing on my tongue! A heavenly nectar of golden plumpness.
I had another handful...and oh, what a beautiful place the world is! I love you all, and why have I waited so long!?
I can only imagine that soaking the golden babes longer would make the flavour more intense. But the liquid gin that happened to fall into my cup was gorgeous too (for purely medicinal purposes you understand).
It did sod all for the pain, but I slept like a baby!
The particular Shetland gin will be out of stock at the local grog shop for the foreseeable future.
Please note...I am not advocating the use if alcohol. You are all intelligent people, use your grey matter. My grey matter has turned to gin jelly...and I'm OK with that.
Sounds like me on Xmas day , having a few glasses of wine whilst cooking the dinner , by the time it's cooked you don't care what it looks like ( everyone expects perfect presentation like in the movies ) . After a few glasses of wine the stress goes the dinner is cooked and if you don't like it don't come next year lmao xx. Will have a go at them raisins though xx
I've decided that gin is very much like opiates...doesn't do much for the pain, you just don't care as much!
It's 8.50am in the morning here, and all your comments have made me desperate to try these gin soaked raisins! 😂
So do I
Needing an update on the gin-soaked raisins
I've got a cauliflower salad that's fermented/matured more rapidly than I'd intended and it needs a small hit of sweetness when it's served. I'm thinking about vacuum-infusing some raisins with gin and using those. Does that seem a sound idea, Nettac ?
They are delicious...and lethal! I stick them in everything good with yogurt, on toast, in a sandwich, stews and breakfast cereal....but only if you have absolutely no plans for the rest of your life. Lol
