Went to a house and gardens.

Went out yesterday to a house and gardens. The footpaths round the garden were rough and not disabled friendly. Well this morning i am in so much pain. I have complained to the estate. Also i couldn't take my scooter into the house and the only wheelchair was in use and wouldn't be back for half an hour. So we came home in disgust. We then went out last night with my very dear friend who lives here where we are on holiday. We were still home by 10.30pm and i went straight to bed and i was up at 4am in absolute agony. I am doing my best not to sit here crying.xxxx

Oh I do feel for you Sylvi🙁. There is clearly much more to do with regard to disabled access to attractions. I do realise old buildings have problems with this but I guess all we can do is make them aware that this is discrimination. Not sure how the law affects things. Do hope you feel better soon. X

Hi was this a national trust property? Sadly most places are not obliged to supply wheelchairs as obviously this would actually cost quite a lot and would need to be kept up to a high standard with regular maintaince, also extra cost and also increased insurance.

I have visited many of these places and always take a wheelchair with me as most of the areas I want to see are inaccessible to me in my scooter and being unable to walk safely without my crutches that's not always an option as path's further in are usually old and uneven.

I hope you are able to feel better soon and know next time to go well prepared.

Yes it was a national trust and yes we are members and yes we were disappointed. I don't own a wheelchair and we couldn't get it in the car with my scooter.xxxx

There's a fairly new website at accessiblegardens.org.uk that is aiming to have reviews of how easy public gardens are for people with mobility issues and families with pushchairs. It's looking for people to send in reviews of gardens they've been to...... reviews@accessiblegardens.org.uk

You tell them!

Thank you darling i will certainly look at this site and write some reviews. Yesterday we went to Petwood house and spa for Sunday lunch with our dear friend as she recommended it and what a joy it was,the food was lovely and tender the service was beyond anything i have encountered before and it was a joy to be here. It was relaxing as well and the gardens were a dream. We didn't get to see all of it as with my health i was starting to feel exhausted so we went and ordered tea/coffee. We could have stayed all day and they wouldn't have bothered you. A thoroughly enjoyable day.xxxx
