It still took 2weeks befor I got the results after that letter and I was very disappointed. Kept me on standard LA & said even tho I had the 12 points for full disability I was too old (66) it stops at 65. My RA has progressed much worse in 2yrs since I first received PIPs but they kept me on standard rate.

But good luck to you. I have submitted an appeal letter.

If 65 is too old for Pip is any other benefit in it's place?

No - they actually said there is no other benefit for disability. And I dont qualify for any benefits as I was dat enough to save whilst I worked from age of 15. And I have no private pension.

That's not good. Are you in England? What about carers allowance?

Yes Im in the north east of England. Dont know about carers allowance. And I dont hsve anyone come to care for me anyway.

My Aunt used to claim carers allowance. You don't have to have anyone come to you but it is a payment you can use to pay someone else to do things if you need help. If you are in even more need of help my Mother in law claimed Attendance allowance which was not income related and she was able to pay for someone to do her cleaning and go on hospital visits with her. I would look it up as there must still be something after Pip is stopped.

I'm sorry they've decided you remain on standard DA Gladys & that things aren't good. How annoying that you're just past the cut-off for mobility, especially as you scored enough points. I'm pleased you're appealing DA though, what did the reconsideration reveal?

Bailybiscuit is correct, you should be eligible to apply for Attendance Allowance, once your current PIP stops, have a read through this welfarerights.net/benefits-...

I hope you receive a response re PIP soon. Meantime, have you requested a copy of the assessor's report from the DWP? It will prove helpful if you need to take it to appeal. x

Yes I got a copy thats how i knew I had enough points for mobilty. So I presumed I would get mobility until letter arrived to say I was too old. Ive not had reply as yet ti my reconsideration letter.

I will look into AA but I thought PIPs had replaced this & they said there is no mobility component in AA.

Hopefully you won't be made to hang around & the decision maker's letter will come soon, hopefully with a positive result.

I know you can continue on PIP if you're awarded it before you're 65, what I'm not sure of is once the length your award date expires if you still continue on it. Or if there's any provision made with any other appropriate benefit for the getting around section, I fear not though. There's certainly no mobility for AA, you're right.
