Today I've decided I'd like to try juviderm lip injections.Im on RA meds and mostly what I've heard is that it's ok to go for such a thing but I've also read one blog where it says I could have an immune reaction and make my symptoms worse.
My Rheumatologist said it's ok but I'd like to see if anyone here has experienced with it?
Hi Isabella, I was going to have some fillers last year but didn't go through it. IGetting to that age now where things need a bit of tweaking and if it makes us feel better...why not, I say!! I was told the same as you that it's fine to go ahead but obviously there's a risk as with anything but no more because of the RA, I may have them done this year but only with a reputable doctor with the right qualifications etc. I was thinking of Botox into my jaw but to help me it as I do suffer with it. I have had Juvaderm fillers with RA and no complications. I did not do the lips, but had Restalyn and Juvaderm fillers. There are no worries due to our RA, but be sure to go to a reputable place and feel 100% confident before you sign up. I went to a cosmetic spa and was "OK" with results for some of the work, but they did leave a small lump under my eye that was not there before. This has had me rather unhappy. Next time, I'd go to a cosmetic surgeon's office that also provides other services such as these.

I'm sure it's very tempting,but don't you think you have enough to cope with, with RD, without chancing a bad reaction from lip fillers?
Hi Aged Crone, I've not watched it, were there any cases on there of people with RA? There are risks with EVERYTHING we do in life...but I would be interested in watching it if they had auto-immune conditions?
IT doesn't give historical medical details.....just what can go wrong. If you are mistreated......really makes you think!
I guess it would be unlikely any clinically qualified person could actually guarantee a treatment with fillers ......as everyone would react differently to a substance being injected.
With RA your immune system could be compromised enough not to react in the same way as someone without such problems.

Well if it's not contra-indicated, and I have a very good doc then I would chose to pretend im a normal person and do this for fun and a much needed self esteem boost, as this desease has claimed a lot already.
Exactly my point!! I'm still not sure if I'm going to go for it yet as I may chicken out, but after my body has had god knows what put into it with the RA meds...why not? I only want a very subtle tweak and not confident to go anywhere near my eyes. It's not a vanity thing just a small enhancement to make me feel better after RA destroying my hands/feet. It's a difficult subject to post on as it can be seen as being shallow but I thank Izabella for raising it, as I'm sure we're not the only ones who have thought about it especially as it seems to be everywhere now. I'm happy in myself but a little tweak will help 😉
As long as you have a board certified plastic surgeon it sounds like you'll be fine and if it makes you feel better then by all means do it 😊 there are people who have reactions to products not suited for injection and I'm sure there's a risk even in the best of circumstances but again a board certified plastic surgeon will tell you what the risks are before proceeding.
