my son was put on 10mg once a week and folic acid six times a week . i have heard that hes not likely to feel any improvement until he is on a higher dose. how long does it take before the rheumy increases the dose ?

Depends on the individual. Some people do respond well to low doses.

If your son is a child, then also his body weight will determine the dose. (Just looked at your next post - and your son is not a child!)

He may well respond and respond well. It's important to start at a relatively low dose

Everyone responds differently and our responses can change over time. It will take a while, I think it's normally about 10 - 12 weeks for it to take effect.

Hopefully that dose will work for your son.

Thank u for replying he started on sulfsalaxine then put on methotrexate but platelets kept dropping so was taken off everything for 3 months ( dark times with only paracetamol) he had been started back on 10 mg per week four weeks ago . It's an awful disease and my heart goes out to everyone on here
