Hi, try not to worry about tomorrow. You might have some side effects from MXT but sometimes it's best not to expect anything. In any case you should get used to it fairly quickly. I take that dose and I find it's best to take 3 pills after a good breakfast then the other 3 after dinner. It's fine. I don't even know I've taken it now, except it does give me wind! Good luck

Hi I've changed from tablets to injection at first tablets made me feel sick and tired after a few weeks then I was been sick and getting ulcers took a while to know it didn't suit me x

I started on 15mg &, similar to Downtime, I took my tablets with meals but 2 x 3 times a day with breakfast, lunch & dinner. Drink plenty of water & don't forget to take your folic acid tablets as your Rheumy directed, if you do have any side effects they're intended to help ease them.

I hope MTX works as well for you as it has for me. I've been on it 8 years, it's been my longest serving med. I reacted negatively to SSZ too so let's hope you're like me & find MTX helps. If there's anything specific you'd like to know just ask.

When I was first diagnosed my consultant put me on Slfz and on the initial dose I was fine but once it was upped I was dreadfully ill and had to stop taking it. I have been on Mtx now for 6+ months and had no problems at all. Unfortunately it hasn't worked on its own so I also take leflumonide too and so far the combination work well. After the bad reaction with Slfz I was nervous about taking any drugs but we all react differently - and I sincerely hope it works for you too. Take the folic acid every day but the day you take the Mtx and make sure you have the blood tests as directed by your consultant too. Good luck 😊

Hi Selbel. I started on 15mg just like you and have increased the dose to 25mg over time. I take it with my evening meal with lots of soft drink or water - drinking several glasses of water helps. I was prescribed folic acid 5mg to be taken 6 days a week (never on MTX day) and it's fine. I can feel a bit icky the day after and maybe a little slower but that's it. I've been taking it for nearly 6 months now. I hope this helps. Hugs

Yes I have to go and get some folic acid the drs forgot to send the script down, good job I pay for a prepayment certificate cost a bloody fortune 😏 about time they sorted that out don't you think?xx

Too right! It's blooming obscene that people with chronic illness have to pay for prescriptions. A friend's daughter cannot afford to work because her condition demands a lot of drug therapy.

They have decided falrbramaralga? How ever you spell it is an illness so why not RA it can be controlled but never going to get better, I've been in a constant flare as they say until they can manage me, think it's unfair people should have to pay xxx

We should join a pressure group! There must be one out there

The NRAS have tried on our behalf Jan, a couple of years ago, Conn_NRAS informed us & this is a more recent update from the NRAS site nras.org.uk/news/prescripti.... No change yet I'm afraid, I assume they're still trying. It's not when other long term conditions are exempt is it?

It's been something like 50 years since the NHS list of excepted diseases was compiled hasn't it? Well past time for the dinosaurs at the NHS to review. I could get cross

Me too. I'd need to check a bit more. Unfortunately it'll have to be later as we're off to hospital soon. I'll get back to you. x

Ps many thanks for the link. Unfortunately or fortunately I am too old to pay prescription charges so will not be able to participate in the surveys or harrass my MP.

Yes they say eat with food and drink plenty of water, suppose as they are filtering through our bodies, I think mine is only one a day and take folic acid everyday except the day I take mxt xxx

You might experience side effects tho not everyone does! I did / do occasionally but seem to be getting use to them along with Hydroxcholquinne and Celecoxib 200. I take folic acid 6 days also anti sickness tablets which very much help !!

I wish you well

Sending {hugs} x

Thank you do you take all 6 at once? Or through out the day? I never read label last week until now I've missed breakfast and lunch..?xxx

It's one folic acid a day Selbel, so one each day except for the day you take your MTX. That is if that's what the chemist label on your box of folic acid says, not every Rheumy prescribes it 6 times a week. The amount of tablets you're prescribed per month will relate to what's in your box so if you've only to take it once a week there will only be 4 in the box, 6 times a week there'll be 24 if that makes sense? When I first started MTX my Consultant asked me to take it the day after MTX, that was increased to the day before as well. My current Rheumy prefers every day except MTX day.

No not the folic acid the MTX says 6 one day starting say today then following week xxx

Duh, sorry! If it helps I had no side effects on tablets, other than one I had no control over that is, & I took my weekly dose of 15mg with meals.... 2 tablets with breakfast, 2 with lunch & 2 with dinner. It's less of a hit on the body than taking your dose all in one go. Hope this helps.

I take 1 folic acid a day for six days never on the same day as Methotrexate. I take anti sickness tablets as and when.

I hope this helps x
