I have rheumatoid arthritis and have been very painful the last few weeks. Before I start to take the Sulfasalazine suggested by my doctor I would like to know if some of you have had good results with it or if there is some other drugs and remedies that could be more effective without too many side effects.
I will appreciate your answers

I had a really bad time on sulfasalazine. It made the pain much worse, I became quite ill on it. However, some folks really do well on it.
We are all very different, and what works for one person may not for another. You can try it and see what happens. It takes a while for the positives to kick in.
I was on Sulfasalazine for 9 months. 2 pill in the morning and two in the evening. I had absolutely no problem with the med except it did not do anything for the inflammation I had. Only thing I can suggest is that you give it a try for at least 8 weeks. If you have no real relief of your symptoms by then, ask your doctor for something else.
What other meds have you been on? How is your CRP level? How is your liver function? Blood counts?
Have been on it a while. Helped a bit.some get stomach problems but I have been fine.Hope it helps things improve for you.my best one has been hydroxychlorine thou
Hi I've been on sulphasalazine for nearly 6 years and been really good on it. I had slight nausea at first but that soon went. It took about 12 weeks to kick my RA into remission.
However last year I had a really bad lung infection and after that, my RA flared. I had injections but eventually my rheumatologist had to add in methotrexate but I'm fine on that too and still take the sulphasalazine as well. I lead a busy normal life and work full time.

3 good years on sulphasalazine with just some stomach problems (not too bad) , but remember we are all different and the only way the doctors have so far for finding what suits each of us best with RA is trial and error.
6 years on Sulphasalazine with no problems. The first couple of months were a bit difficult as gave me a very excitable stomach but after that it was fine. Don't be surprised if you have orange pee.
I've been on it for 3 year's with no problems or side effects at all, methotrexate really made me ill but fine on this. Good luck!
Cant remember how long i was on it but i became very unwell with it lost lots of weight and had no appetite but like others have said it works well for a lot of people so it may work well for you as we are all different good luck with it and hope you do well on it
I've been on it for seven months. No side effects once i got the coated tablets which have got rid of nausea. Not sure how effective it is but does work for some
Sulphasalazine is usually one of the first drugs used for treating RA & many people do very well on it.
If you have been prescribed it by your rheumatologist maybe you should try it ...on this site we are not medically trained & prescribing for each different type of RA takes years of training
We can only say what drugs we take & how effective we find them. What I take successfully may make someone else very poorly.
If only to keep an amenable relationship with your doctor I'd try what he prescribes & see how you go.
The summer of 2016, I had been on sulfa for about a year. I thought it wasn't helping me so I stopped taking it...Big mistake...so I'm back on sulfa and I will never give it up
