Question for you all.

I have Severe OA, my question is: What is your opinions of the use of copper braclets, do you think they genuinely work?

The reason I ask is, I've been looking for ages online at these braclets, of all various designs & prices, & varied opinions. Who should I purchase from, bearing in mind, that my cash flow is tightly limited.

Thankyou in advance.

HiHi from what I have heard the copper and the magnetic bracelets do not work, after all these investigations have proved no good. Gimme the money instead lol, that's from about 2 years ago.

The reason why copper bracelets are believed to work does have some scientific backgroud. People who suffer from OA and RA have copper deficiency because of chronic inflammation. Copper supplementation is therefore recommended. It has been shown tha those who worked in copper mines did not have arthritis and there was a natural fountain that people found relief for their arthritis when drinking, it turned out that the cause was the high copper concentration in the water. As for the bracelets I suppose it depends on the amount of copper absorbed by the skin?

Everything I've read says no. But they are pretty xx

Lmao, pretty!!

I've tied them too. No effect - except an ugly black stripe on my arm. The magnetic ones don't help me either.

If there is a link to copper, then spend the money on eating oysters and shellfish instead? Much nicer.....

in reply to helixhelix

Vegetarian. No meat or fish. I'll buy Whisky instead πŸ˜…

Or try putting old copper pennies in your shoes!

I'm not losing the plot.....I read that somewhere!

in reply to AgedCrone

what a brilliant idea. You are one smart lady AgedCrone. It doesn't hurt to try the pennies in your shoes.

It's free too! But I forgot to mention you will have look up when the copper content in old coins was reduced...can't remember that bit, but at my advanced years I'm allowed amnesia!

How is the dental work coming along Suzanne?

Hope the RA is cooling off.

in reply to AgedCrone

it was 1987 in Canada when they added lots of nickel to the copper pennies....I am a nerd aren't I?..lol

As for the dental work, I'm seeing a new dentist on April 12. I'm going to play stupid and ask

"how many root canals do I have?"and I'll ask,

"does my gum graft look normal?"

I've been having problems being honest to dentists. They seem to "run away" and not wanting to get involved when I tell them my story.

Having said that, I am feeling better.

How are you doing?

All medics seem to stick together don't they ? Hope the new dentist tells you the truth & turns out to be one of the good guys! Glad to hear you are feeling better at last. Good Luck on Wednesday.

I'm doing well thanks...off for RTX infusion tomorrow....second treatment. Rheumy says I have reacted so well.....virtually no pain for 5 months I may be one of the lucky ones who only need infusions every 9-12 months rather than every 6 months.so fingers crossed. He treats his patients how they really are .....not how the books say he should. The Rheumy nurses really like him because most of his patients don't complain about him.....making their job easier.

Beautiful sunshine here this morning.....but forecast is cold again tomorrow!

in reply to AgedCrone

I'm so happy for you to have found the right meds and the right doctor. Yippee long may you remain painfree :)

It is 4am now and I can't sleep. The weather yesterday sucked. The heavy rains and winds reminded me of November. The GVRD area is having wacky weather.

I'm looking so forewards to today because it's suppose to be sunny. We're going to plant our knockout roses and carpet roses today. I'll post a pic when we are done.

12 noon here.....I'm packing my picnic for the 7 hour infusion tomorrow. They do provide a packed lunch....but I am not keen on their sandwiches...I am packing nibbles..grapes, peeled nectarines & satsumas, cottage cheese & crackers.....

Last time I slept a lot as they put anti histamine in the drip ...so I just doze off...but I like to nibble between naps.

Coincidence......I'm hoping to plant some climbing roses this week.....ever hopeful as I can kill a plant at 50 paces!!!I have successfully seen off a horrid trellis of prickly pyracantha& look forward to baby pink & white roses instead....I can only dream!!

Have been having massive cupboard clear out......& have now had to order 'over back of door' storage racks to store what is left . I can't work, out how having filled charity bags for weeks I now need MORE storage!

Hope your weather holds.....still,sunny here! Happily planting!

in reply to AgedCrone

I remember hearing about that, but I don't think I have any very old pennies. May have to do a search at my parents house, they're bound to have some hiding in tins. πŸ˜„

Try Googling something like " when was copper content reduced in coins" at least you'd know how far back you need to go!

There is no scientific evidence for benefit, just advertising!

Simba1992 profile image

There is scientific evidence for copper deficiency in people with RA and OA so not far from the logic that supplementation with copper would help, since it really has quite a central role in immunesystem functionπŸ€”

More a question of how much is absorbed by using the bracelet.

Ok so my friend at work was a metal fabricator years back and when his thumb hurts through OA as he says he puts on a bracelet he has made from copper tubing. Swears by it but who knows. Says it gets rid of his pains after a few days. I think it's all in his head! Lol

Here is some research that at least point on the importance of copper in OA.

More interesting about copper.

Thanks for your replies. Don't know if I'm more confused now or not. Simba1992 thanks for the info, will look into it. 😎

Ask for one for a present next time you're due a gift that way you can test it out at no expense to you and a loved one will be giving you a gift that may just keep on giving!!!

Although this link from the NHS is from 2009 I can't think it would still be live if thoughts or other research had since proved otherwise nhs.uk/news/2009/10October/...

I think it's safe to say you'd be better off treating yourself to that bottle of whiskey Ruth!

Well, I think your answer has solved the problem. Whisky it has to be then. πŸ˜‰

And plain chocolate. healthyeating.sfgate.com/co...

"Each ounce of 70 percent dark chocolate provides you with 0.5 milligrams of copper, which is 25 percent of the daily value of 2 milligrams for people following a 2,000-calorie diet."

Gnarli profile image

Well, that's the best answer yet! Get a loved one to buy you the pretty bracelets and 70% dark chocolate and settle down with them and a couple of drams! Result!
