My name is Bijan, I would appreciate if anyone who has had colonoscopy procedure while being under MMT( Methadone maintenance therapy), tell me if methadone can have any negative effects on the procedure!I've been under MMT for about 15 years now. I also do have RA but I'm off most of the medications now.

It doesn't need to have any negative effects, but you MUST tell the doctors doing your colonoscopy. They have a big selection of drugs they can use for sedation and it will be important that they choose the right one for you.
But it's a pretty quick procedure so you may not need much sedation. When I had it done the preparation the day before was the worst bit!
I have already told my doctor and thanks for that, but what I mostly wanted to know is whether you were on MMTyourself and have the experience or you just know it through the grapevine!

No experience myself, but just wanted to reassure you that doctors usually have a lot of experience to draw on.

I've used methadone some 25 years ago (didn't work for me - I got clean by withdrawal) and as far as I can recall, any potentially hazardous procedure (surgery, invasive procedure that may require analgesia) the medical staff would provide you with pain cover - should that be needed - which would not interfere with your MMT program.
As Helixhelix says, your medical team MUST know about the MMT. I've not had a colonoscopy but I understand it's not a long drawn out procedure and I would think you're not at risk from a standard colonoscopy.

Hello Bijan,
I know you are pretty much done your colonoscopy now and I am sure it went fine. Anytime you want or need to talk to someone about questions on MMT(I've been on 160 for 12 years) please feel free) . I still run into situations I am not sure about and it helps to know someone has been there and done that. You seem to be very similar to me. When you get on, it is easy to do good, but any thing having to do with the main stream medical field seems very hard to get answers on. Thank You. Matthew
