Dachshunds are especially gorgeous. My Mum and Dad had one when I was little, many moons ago and I still remember the excitement when she had 5 puppies.

They seem to have become quite popular again in the last few years, i hope it doesnt lead to breeding problems with them, they have been known to suffer from spine problems due to selective breeding tobmake them longer.

Absolutely! The pup we decided to keep, a stunningly beautiful long-haired red girl, slipped a disc when she was tiny and we were advised to have her put down. My Dad was a physio and made her a surgical corset and eventually she recovered. Over-breeding is a massive problem

Omg - that's the sort of light hearted, cheer me up kind of things I want to see when i log on in here each day,not the 'twaddle' (sorry if I've offended anyone by using that word,or by referring to the post that seems to have hijacked this site in the past few days! 😤Sorry, rant over😝) I'm all for healthy debate, but not the condescending or sometimes derogatory comments made just because people have their own opinions and refuse to have someone else's pushed down their throat!! I use this forum as an invaluable source of knowledge, and also to help others with things I didn't even realise I knew myself at times - it truly has helped me through some of my darker days/nights,when no amount of pills or other methods will let me sleep. I've 'met' some truly inspirational people since I found you guys, and I just wish I'd known about you when I was originally struggling with diagnosis and fighting through acceptance and the behaviour of work at the time. I will continue to use this site, and also, health allowing as I've got myself a party(woohoo) to go to on sat night, that I can attend my first NRAS meeting next week.

So go on then, how old is that beautiful baby? And please share the name that suits that wonderful face.

I agree Nicki, I do wonder sometimes, even suggested it once, if it would be a good idea starting up an HU site for alternative ideas of treating RD but had a scathing response. I've added my sixpenn'orth today on that post, I can't type the title, but I make no excuses, until something's proved to work through the proper channels I won't risk my future health, we just don't know how it may affect us in the longer term, there's no evidence.

I agree with your comments, this site puts us in touch with people we'd never have known of otherwise, who share a common bond, that's what it should be all about. I have made some good friends here, for that I'm thankful for it too.🙂

I had started to type out a reply, but it ended up being like war and peace and I hadn't even got halfway through what I wanted to say,and then I thought, hang on,that's the reaction he wants - I've tried looking at how to block him so my phone's not covered with his threads constantly, but I can't find it,so I'm the meantime,I'll just scroll past, and speak to the 'normal' and polite people that are usually here, not people that just pop on to fire up everyone, then disappear again after!!

I'm not even going to give the name out - if you haven't seen it,be grateful. As for the pup,I'll have to make do with my very own - an 18wk old Maltese that is like a ball of cotton wool, but definitely rules this house 😍

nomoreheels profile image
nomoreheels in reply to Nickijk73

I've got news for you they continue ruling the house once they're adolescents & to complete the job when fully grown! Other people have been conned by those doe eyes too, personally 7 times!

Oh,I know - I grew up in a house where it wasn't a home unless we had a dog or two,and since leaving home it was then cats, now this is the first dog I can truly claim that owns only me!!'

Oo oo, can I share something, forgot to tell my h & as you're a doggie owner you may understand why I'm itching to tell. My youngest, the one in my profile pic, has started doing something without being taught, actually it first happened whilst my h was here now I think back. She's coming to tell me when the phone rings & she licks my hand, she is a licker, something we've failed to stop but never normally hands! It only occurred to me when I thought about it, she did the same when my h's mobile rang last week, sought him out & each time the land line rings too. Sorry if I seem over excited but this is the first thing she's done without prompting!

That's fantastic - I still believe that animals are far more intuitive to our routines and conditions than we give them credit for - my smallest cat(still big because of being half Maine coon) wakes me during the day at times when she knows I should be awake, usually with a little nudge to the face first, and if that doesn't work, then a whack with her huge paw😈 but she also does it if I've passed out on the bed at night before pulling the covers over - in fact more than once I've woken in the early hours to find her spread across me like a hot water bottle trying to keep me warm..... it's something she never does if it's not too cold, but just during the really bitter nights(normally I forget to turn the heating down so it's like a sauna.... the joys of having no memory anymore😝) - it really does make you love them even more,if at all possible?! How old is your pup?

Sounds like you have a sensitive companion there, aware of when things aren't quite right.

Freya's 6 so not so much of a pup anymore though you'd be given fir thinking she is when playing with Annie, our other dog. She's her personal groomer too, not that it's reciprocated!

Seriously - we thought we were getting a couple of jolly little moggy kittens at about 6wks old(if they were that old?!😤) but then a year later the vet tells us that it looks as though they're actually half Maine coon(the largest domestic cat you can get apparently😩) and I was wondering why I was waking during the night with mog on my legs and wondering why I couldn't feel a thing😂 that,or the fact that when I don't get up when she wants she uses her 'fur clad big feet'.... my dad's words of endearment!! To either smack me in the eye(I do have the scar to prove it) or to attack my legs like scratch posts.... and of course,if that doesn't work, then there's always the tried and tested method of just lying, her big fluffy behind across my neck and in my face, with all of her weight on my chest, whacking me with her tail, until I give in because I can no longer breath through the clouds of hair.... she really is a law unto herself, and I always thought my mum's bengals were asbo cats, but she makes them look like angels.... I did consider getting a full breed at one point, but after nearly 3 years of her stubbornness,I decided to opt for the Maltese instead.... at least when she bites it doesn't hurt anywhere near as much 😝

Persistent if nothing else! A friend of ours had a Maine Coon, Rupert, though you could've been forgiven to think he was a dog in cat's clothing he was so heavy. They lived near where I worked so offered to feed him whilst they were on holiday, it must be a thing about the breed, my legs were ripped to shreds whilst preparing his lunch the first day. I took an old pair of jeans & wellies the next day & left them there to change into each day. Boy it hurt. Apparently Siamese can be the same, my h fed his aunties whilst they were away, same thing. She was called Pyewacket, I think appropriately named.

That's a fab name - we have two littermates, and wanted names that would match,so it was meg n mog,as they were the first names we both thought of and liked straightaway 😊meg has all the traits of a Maine Coon, and is the same broad shape and size, just not the fluffy fur, whereas Mog is literally a Maine Coon in mini form(although I'm using the term 'mini' in the very loosest way here😂) and they get along so great with the first rescue at we took in off the street as a couple, that we couldn't get another cat for risk of destroying the bond the three of them have - you could be mistaken for thinking they were related, and the best part is that even though he obv had a home somewhere to start with(far too soft to be a total feral) we had to teach him how to play, yet he was a couple of years old by then the vets think,so to see him now running around like an absolute lion with the girls is just bliss.... they've basically taught him how to relax and become a cat again, which makes me love them all the more for it 😻we have an enclosed garden for them as we live just off a main road, and they have their very own shed(complete with insulation and heating/lighting,and also privacy glass so that whilst they sit on their towers or armchair, they can watch the birds on the feeders in the other garden and the birds don't get spooked because they can't see the cats - nothing like live tv😝 it was having these three around me that got me through the days before being almost under control, otherwise I truly would've gone mad by being housebound on my own.... and even though they are taking it slower than I expected to get used to Minnie (she'll only ever be half their size at her biggest,so definitely no threat to them) they're slowly getting there, and fingers crossed, this summer we can all be nutters in the garden together 😊

Should say loon, not lion.... that's mog's role with her fantastic mane 😻

They're some pampered pets. Get them, their own cat house! We've found cars do tend to rule the roost over dogs. From the moment we brought our second dog home she was under no illusion who was top dog (or cat to be more precise).
