Yes, you have to miss taking it. Start again a few days after finishing your antibiotics.

My Rheumatology nurse always tells me to not take mtx if you have any infection and taking antibiotics.

What an awful way to start the New Year. Hope you are better soon. Thanks for posting this question. I don't know the answer but I will be following this post.

It's variable, so best to ask your own medical team. Sometimes the doctors think that there's no need to stop and sometimes they think that you should. Depends on how nasty the infection is, what type of antibiotic, your medical history and whether you are generally healthy etc etc.

But there again I've missed a dose of MTX now & then because of holidays, special occasions and so on and didn't seem to make a difference.

I was told that if you take Mtx it makes the infection worse

Check with the pharmacist or Rheumy nurse ......I was told no penicillin whilst on Mtx.Unfortunately most GP's don't check before prescribing it.

Check with the Rheummy people but I was told to stop the Mtx until the antibiotics were finished. I had asked the GP but she said "it's fine no issue "

Hope you feel better soon.

Usually if the antibiotic is penicillin or sulfa based (trimethoprim & septrin are common ones) it's recommended you stop your MTX until the course is finished then resume on the day you normally inject. I've been told in the past by my Rheumy nurse that it's not necessary to stop MTX unless you're prone in bed but if it's either of the above antibiotics (or any other for that matter) I do anyway. Rightly or wrongly my thinking is they have a better chance of fighting whatever's ailing me if I don't inject & from previous personal experience I don't miss a week or two off MTX. If you're in any doubt though check with your GP, Rheumy nurse or Pharmacist.

I hope the antibiotics do their good work & you're soon feeling better. Oh & it's best to finish the course even if you feel better before. 🙂🤒

I woke up on New Years Eve with sore throat, swollen glands and very painful joints. I was wondering about my methotrexate too. Unfortunately Drs and rheumatoid nurses on holiday until tomorrow:(
