Truthfully it stings. Not unbearable but less stingy if you take it out of the of the fridge an hour before you use it. Also less painful in my stomach , but the pros outweighed the cons and if you can manage rheumatoid pain you can manage the injection! Good luck x
Some people put ice on the spot for a few minutes before( obviously not cold enough to burn) and find that helps !?
Thank you thank helps me out alot.now I know what I am looking at in the next couple of days. And the ice before the shots great idea would not have thought of that
My first biologic was humira and I have to stay it more than stung when injected myself. allanah is correct when suggesting letting it warm to room temp and injecting into stomach - so much better. I'm now on enbrel and even straight from fridge, it doesn't sting so not sure what that's about other than maybe I'm so used to taking them now it no longer causes anxiety etc.
Best of luck with it and merry Christmas to you!
Hi hurtalot
I was on humir for maybe a year before we agree that actually, it served no real purpose and so moved to enbrel. Unfortunately , this too doesn't appear to be doing what it should, hence the addition of 20mg mtx. I am also, in the next few weeks, moving to trying another biologic - really does appear to be trial and error, finding the most effective combination of meds . Oh well, onwards and upwards!
I was on mtx for one day had to stop using it had a bad allergic to it .then went to arava it did not work .now on to humira
The humira doesn't sting like it used to they have taken the sting out I'm pleased to say.
Hope all goes well
Regards Mike
As Matalow says, they have taken the sting out recently, I had to get my GP's nurses to inject the old formula. I have been on it 8 years, has been a great drug, but do have low dose steroids and mtx as well. Good luck X
As has already been mentioned, the sting has been removed! That said, I never found the injections painful anyway, the needle is so thin and goes into my skin like a knife into soft butter - easy peasy! I sympathise with those who have a real problem with needles but for most of us a few seconds of possible discomfort is as nothing compared to the pain of inflammatory arthritis. Humira has been absolutely wonderful for me.
It's has helped but not as much as I was hoping , on taking the humira its fine it's a couple of days later it itches a lot , xDawn
humira has given me my life back and hardly stings now that they have altered the formula...
