Hi guys just a quick question can I take isoniazid and rifampicin) while I'm taking Sulphasalazine?
isoniazid and rifampicin: Hi guys just a quick question... - NRAS
isoniazid and rifampicin
Hi Pedz,
I am having treatment for latent TB. However I do not take Sulphasalazine, so I would check with your TB nurse or Rheumatology nurse.
I do take a wide range of drugs for RA, the anti TNF type is the range of drugs that are not comparable. It would not be good to be taking an immune suppressant with the chance the TB could become active.
The dual drug treatment you mentioned did not suit me. My liver function became raised to the point that I had to stop the dual treatment. Then I had to wait for my liver function to return to normal before being put on a six months course of isoniazid on its own. I had weekly blood tests at the beginning, as they do monitor you closely.
I would check that the TB and Rhuematology nurses have doubled checked with the two consultants that yout medication is compatible. Hopefully you are able to phone them and speak to them directly to put your mind at rest.
I have two months left on Isoniazid, having had no problems. I hope your treatment goes well and the latent TB can be 'put to bed'. My TB nurse was happy for me to phone and ask questions during office hours, I found her very supportive.
Some days I feel that if someone was to shake me I would rattle!!!
Sending my best wishes.
