Hi all

Im looking for some advice. I've had to stop methotrexate due to nausea even after trying the injection and 6 days of folic acid and reducing dose but currently suffering seems to be one joint after another it seems my choice is nausea can pain. Recently had steroid injection in both hips for bursitis but pain seems to be worse than ever and looking for some advice. Doctors appointment is like trying to get an audience with the pope, body pillow too hot this weather and at the end of my tether. Any help gratefully received x

I was referred to physiotherapy for bursitis on my hip and had acupuncture over 6 weeks which did the job. That was about 4 years ago and no trouble since. Why not try that route

I started this problem 10 years ago this October. Have had physio, injections, acupuncture. Now on glucose injection. Nothing has worked, but I hope that something works for you.

Hi Jackymac

Thank you very much for your reply. I am so sorry that I haven't thanked everyone before for their replies but there seems to have been some sort of update and haven't been able to log back in. I am going to try acupuncture as it was acupuncture who picked up I had an autoimmune disease.

Thank you again x

I have had hip bursitis since 95. The steroid injections into the bursitis helped at first. It took about a week to work. Did need to rest it though for that time. 10 years on they stopped working so I had two lots of surgery. This improved movement but not the pain. Physio never really helped. That's when I agreed to see rheumatologist again. I got the diagnosis of inflammatory arthritis. Started on hydroxy then 6 months later sulphasalazine. This addition worked really well and did settle the bursitis. Now on Mtx 25mg too. From time to time it plays up but has settled a lot.

Maybe you will be offered a different DMARD. I do hope it helps.

I've got an appointment with rheumy nurse end of September that's if it's not cancelled again and will see where I can go from here regarding dmards as really don't want to go back on mtx. I am going to try acupuncture though x

No experience of a bursitis but regarding the heat - I go to bed with a cold damp flannel on my forehead or back of my neck and that help me to keep cool enough to sleep.

All the best

I had a hip bursitis for about a month after my first hip replacement. Since then have had this occur a few times - sometimes for about a fortnight, sometimes longer.

They were horrible went away on their own after taking it easy but the unpredictability and not knowing how long it would take to settle was extremely stressful.

In the last two years I found that regular physio and stretching (the way arthritis peeps do it - find the stretches that are right for your, trial and error and rather more of the latter) have pretty much eliminated them for me.

This has been going on now for over 2 years and I don't think they appreciate how debilitating this can be. I've tried swimming, resting and gentle walking along with the stretching exercises they have now given me. I am going to try acupuncture. Have you ever been down this route yet? I will let you know if I find it beneficial as I don't know how you have coped with this for such a length of time but us RD sufferers do mostly just get on with things though as each new thing hits us x

I have one on my elbow and are about to visit the docs in 30 mins. Not painfull unlike your hip, but just unsightly. This is the second time i have visited the docs about this, first time she said wack it with a bible. She might say something heavier this time maybe the whole book shelf or a whole library building. Anyway I hope you get better soon.

I imagine your elbow is just as painful as the hip in its own way. I hope you get some relief this time x
