Shingles Vaccine

Hi I'm due to have the shingles vaccine tomorrow, but concerned with being on 15mg Methotrexate. have tried ringing the rheumatology helpline but that currently unavailable, have also rang surgery but told to attend anyway and discuss with nurse.

Does anyone know who I can contact to make sure I have the correct advice.

Thanks

Jackie

Glad it's sorted. It'd be handy to know what is the score, was it ok?

Apparently it's 0.4mg per kg a week, so for someone of my weight of eight and half stone = 54kg its considered a low dose so ok to have the vaccine.

Thanks. I've had shingles and it's no joke. I still have some of the irritation though it's more than a year ago. I think the vaccination has to be repeated regularly though doesn't it. Well worth it I'd say!

Hi Cathie, wasn't aware of that but will ask tomorrow and post the reply on here.

]Looks like the link I posted isn't working, not surprised as never tried to post a link before.

Shingles vaccine is live. The usual advice with anything that lowers your immune system (including methotrexate) is NO live vaccines.

Pleased you're sorted Jackie, it is confusing & it's something I've not looked into though should, I have the flu vaccine each year but I'm automatically called for that so I don't need to think about it. Just for further or future reference for anyone unsure NRAS have a helpful information page on the subject nras.org.uk/immunisation-fo...

Well went to see the nurse this morning, she told me that I would need to get the go ahead from my consultant before they would administer re it being a live vaccine.

Hi jackiestu,

My doctor told me since my progress was good, so she wanted me to eat what I had been eaten and do what I had been doing. She said I should continue the way I was. If I liked to take any supplement, I must get her approval first. Therefore, I think it is good that you consult your consultant before you go for the vaccine.
