Hi there, crazyme........I have diabetes 2 and I have always wondered why some people who are diabetic lose limbs. If you don't mind,  may I ask you if your diabetes was under control? Was it type 1or2? I am trying to understand. My mother kept telling me if I  did this or that I would lose my legs. I thought if your diabetes is under control,  your body should be like a body without diabetes.

It's very important to look after your feet whether type 1 or type 2, particularly if your levels aren't well controlled & on the high side causing diabetic neuropathy. Sometimes infection from open sores or ulcers can happen & that's where problems can begin. My H's aunt was type 2 & had an emergency heart op, despite her feet being looked after by a Podietrist she had an ulcer on her foot & it allowed MRSA to be contracted through the wound. She had many operations to try & save her toes but eventually she lost all of them. Remarkably for her age she managed to learn to walk & balance well without them except distance such as at airports & theme parks when she'd use a wheelchair. As you can imagine her experience being so close to home my h is particularly careful keeping his feet in good condition & he's now seeing a Podietrist. He's also had a heart op relatively recently & since he's been anaemic & required infusions. Also since the op he's struggled to get his normally good blood sugar levels under control, his normal oral meds aren't helping & has tried insulin injections & now back on oral meds. It's a concern. This explains the importance of good foot health for diabetics diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to-di.... You'll find further information at the bottom of the page if you click on "problem feet - and what to do".

Welcome we have our ups and downs and support each other along the way
