Hi I wonder if anyone here has ever taken this painkiller? For me and many others it was the only one that actually worked. I was signed as a named patient in 2008 saying that i took full responsibility and would not allow others to access my pills nor would i commit suicide. However this drug is now costing nearly £300 for 1 months supply. The clinical commission have decided that they will not allow Drs to prescribe it since November 2015................ : (

In january a sensible chap started a petition to get this relicenced which would then bring down the price. Here is the link and it is a safe site

Well you're really blessed, I know for sure it can't be got in Dorset or South Norfolk unless one finds and pays for a private prescription then finds a pharmacy and has at least £240 each month to pay for them ............pharmacy prices vary a lot and it can be £400 each month :( ;( my friends are now trying to help do some fundraising but????

Yes friends have already written to MP and I am partway through a letter which a friend is proofreading as without pain killer brain fogs up at times!! Thanks for signing the petition, I and others would be grateful if you can ask anyone else you know if they can sign the petition. Um, I wonder if it is possible for you to ask around any pharmacies in your area "If someone has a private prescription, how much would 100 Co-proxamol cost." I'm trying to compile a list of the varying prices.

NB Co-proxamol is paracetamol and Dextropropoxyphene. in Some countries it has other names. I'd love to know if it's available in Guernsey, Jersey the Isle of Man etc.

There must be an answer somehow to this problem but I even looked at trials for new medication and found nothing that would be safe for me.

Thanks for support.

I have been able to get this medication until 2 months ago when my to phoned me to say it was getting too expensive and he would have to stop the repeat prescription. I have just over a box left and although I have been trying to reduce it I'm not sure I will have got it down to zero before the box is empty! I live in north Norwich which I think comes under north Norfolk CCG.

Hi cheeriable,

Have you looked at the petition recently? My latest Update 'MHRA IS A REPREHENSIBLE AND DISHONEST ORGANISATION AND HAS SCANT REGARD FOR PATIENT SAFETY & WELL-BEING!

Also If you Search ITV Northern Ireland you will find the following: -

Tramadol: Risks and addiction

Prescription painkiller tramadol ‘claiming more lives than any other drug’

Prescription painkiller tramadol, taken by thousands of people every day, is claiming more lives than any other drug – including heroin and cocaine – according to Northern Ireland’s top pathologist.

The painkiller doesn’t cause harm if taken correctly, but the danger rises when users mix it with other drugs or alcohol.

Last year, 33 deaths in Northern Ireland were linked to tramadol. Among them were a 16-year-old girl and a pensioner in his 70s. I don't think that people realise how potentially risky taking tramadol is. I think it’s because it’s a prescription drug - people assume it’s safe.

– PROFESSOR JACK CRANE, STATE PATHOLOGIST FOR NI

The opiate-based drug used to treat moderate or severe pain should only be available on prescription – it was reclassified in 2014 making it an illegal Class C drug without prescription.

But anti-drug campaigners say more and more people are turning to the black market. Professor Jack Crane has spoken out to say he fears more people will die unless urgent action is taken and he is calling for a crackdown on the illegal market. He wants tramadol to be upgraded again, this time to Class A.

Professor Crane is now set to meet Northern Ireland's Chief Medical Officer later this month to push for change.

THIS EVIDENCE WAS AVAILABLE IN 2005 WHEN MHRA DELIBERATELY REMOVED THE MA’S FOR CO-PROXAMOL [Table 6 on Update]

I feel that I have been able to prove beyond any doubt that MHRA’s advice to government to ban Co-proxamol was in order to increase their income and NOT FOR DRUG SAFETY CONCERNS OR EFFICACY! CO-PROXAMOL / DEXTROPROPOXYPHENE BASED PRODUCTS ARE BACK IN PRODUCTION!

Co-Proxamol / DEXTROPROPOXYPHENE BASED PRODUCTS ARE BACK IN PRODUCTION IN INDIA

Dextropropoxyphene based products are back in production in India and on the market at a very completive price, £1.13 /100 tablets

MHRA’s scare tactics were totally responsible for the scandalous price increases (£49.50) when the product was finally removed from the NHS prescribing list. For this reason the ‘Named Patient Facility’ should be reinstated immediately and the suitability for controlled status for general use. Co-proxamol should be considered to be far safer than Tramadol, Oxycodone, Fentanyl, and Buprenorphine Which MHRA have issued 298 additional ‘Marketing Authorisations’ since the ban on Co-proxamol was announced in 2005!

It should also be noted that there was a total lack of ‘due diligence’ by ministers when they decided to accept MHRA’s seriously flawed recommendations regarding Co-proxamol.

Ministers Directly Responsible For the Lack of Due Diligence

Patricia Hewitt 5 May 2005 – 27 June 2007

Alan Johnson Secretary of State for Health Jun 2007 - Jun 2009

Caroline Flint Minister for Public Health from 2005 to 2007

Dawn Primarolo Minister for Public Health 2007–2009

Secretary of State for Health Jeremy hunt, my MP Paul Maynard, PrescQIPP, LMMG, CCG, DOH, and the NHS have all acted in a disgraceful manner by refusing to confront the MHRA regarding the MISSINFORMATION they have peddled since 2005; MHRA have had a complete disregard for patient’s safety and wellbeing, and the colossal increased costs which have burdened the NHS throughout this sad state of affairs!

MHRA are nothing more than a REPREHENSIBLE MONEY GRUBBING ORGANISATION IN CAHOOTS WITH BIG PHARMA and are totally devoid of a moral conscience regarding patient safety and wellbeing. They are totally responsible making life intolerable for millions of patients globally!

There should be hope for the Millions of patients who have been denied Co-proxamol for the past ten years!

Caybutyl is a combination prescription 650mg/65mg Paracetamol/ Dextropropoxyphene and comes as a tablet or capsule. A single tablet would be equivalent to the Co-proxamol dose of 2 x 325 /32.5mg.

I have recently been in contact with the Parliamentary Health Committee and the Ombudsman and I would appreciate anyone who has been affected by this ban to contact their GP and MP immediately as PESTER POWER MAY GET CO-PROXAMOL REINSTATED QUICKER FOR EVERYONE WHO NEEDS IT!

Has this gone anywhere or does it need a new push to gain renewed impetus? My husband was prescribed co-proxamol at a pain clinic in Oxford and his consultant put it in his notes back in 2014 that he was to be prescribed it as his 'fire extinguisher' We last got supplies in c2019 but now cannot get any. He has tried several different alternatives, all of which have to fit in with his other medication (11 tablets in the morning and 7 at night) but none provide the pain relief he could get from Co-proxamol). We have 6 tablets left on a strip in a handbag which he uses in 'emergencies' ! I realise we are not alone, but something has to be done to help genuine pain sufferers.

I'm still fighting despite my deteriorating health due to the lack of co-prox since 2015!

I still have ongong FOI requests and I'm still comunicating with my GP, MP, MHRA and the ICO. If you can PM me with an Email address I will be willing to keep you updated.

Facts:

The Co-proxamol Ban Was Intended to Reduce Suicide Rates, IT HAS CLEARLY FAILED!

The UK suicide rates were already declining for Co-proxamol while the drug was classed as a POM prior to the ban. Suicide/Open reports had reduced from 296 in 2000 to just 204 in 2004 A 7% REDUCTIONS HAD BEEN ACHEIVED! Further reductions could have been guaranteed by simply changing the drug classification to ‘Schedule 3 controlled’. I feel sure if the classification had been changed Co-proxamol would have remained on the market today at a very completive price for the NHS!

THE FACTS REMAIN THAT THE 298 ADDITIONAL MA’S FOR ANALGESIA ISSUED BY MHRA SINCE THE BAN WAS ANNOUNCED DURING 2005 HAVE PROVED BEYOND ANY DOUBT TO BE MORE DEADLY, ADDICTIVE, WITH LESS EFFICACY THAN CO-PROXAMOL!

The Number of deaths from drug poisoning by opiates in England and Wales from 1993 to 2019

statista.com/statistics/470...

Opiate Deaths between 2004 and 2019

Deaths 2004 1172 Deaths 2019 2160 (998 Additional Deaths)

IT’S APPARENT THAT CO-PROXAMOL IS A MUCH NEEDED MEDICATION FOR THE REMAINING ‘NAMED PATENTS’ WHO CONTINUE TO RECEIVE THE BEST MEDICATION FOR THEIR NEEDS VIA THEIR CONSCIENTIOUS GP’s WHO CONTINUE TO PRESCRIBE DESPITE THE ASTRONOMICAL COST TO THE NHS!

openprescribing.net/nationa...

CCG - Price per Tablet - Quantity Ordered

NHS Stafford and Surrounds CCG £12.85 60

NHS Herts Valleys CCG £ 0.97 918

The closest equivalent for immediate import to the UK is Parvon-N 32mg, Dextropropoxyphene 350 mg Paracetamol, and has been available for import for just 61.42 INR = £0.61 GBP (61 pence) per box since 2017.

The only difference between Co-proxamol and Parvon-N is an additional 25mg of Paracetamol which is safe, negligible, and probably more beneficial!

CO-PROXAMOL (PARVON-N) SHOULD BE CONSIDERED TO BE FAR SAFER THAN CO-CODAMOL, TRAMADOL, OXYCODONE, FENTANYL, AND BUPRENORPHINE!

SOMEONE IN DOHSC / NHS MUST EXPLAIN WHY A DRUG WHICH SHOULD COST PENNIES WOULD HAVE COST NHS STAFFORD AND SURROUNDS CCG £1285.00 FOR 100 TABLETS DURING AUGUST 2020, WHEN PARVON-N COULD HAVE BEN IMPORTED FOR JUST £0.65 PENCE!

Co-proxamol was and remains the best analgesic with the fewest side-effects for the majority of patients. 1.75 million UK Patients have been seriously affected since the ban was first announced during 2005, and have suffered with uncontrolled pain, addiction, and severe side effects from the alternate drugs which MHRA have granted!
