I've been referred to a shoulder surgery doc ortho surgeon so I'm getting mentally prepared for possible arthroscopy surgery.

I feel your pain - I have had 2 steroid injections into a frozen shoulder and after 2 or 3 weeks of being pain free it seems to come back worse!

Having the same sorts of problems with my knee. Get injected but after 6 weeks it's back again! Hope they get us sorted soon lol! X

As my mum would say we all need putting in a bag and shaking up, we would come out good as new. If Only!

I had a hydrocortisone injection in my right shoulder for inflammatory arthritis, which showed up on ultrasound. It was ultrasound directed.

It worked really well immediately from the moment the needle was inserted, and relieved around 75/90% of pain which had caused very limited range of movement and quite a disability.

It lasted around 10/12 weeks, when it returned but there was a minor permanent improvement. I was offered another one but I declined it. I use electro acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine which is very good at relieving this.

I am not sure what arthroscopy can do. Is there joint damage? I feel my shoulder scraping and I suspect there is some joint damage. My problem started overnight with my right hand and wrist, then the left hand and wrist, then the elbows, then my right shoulder. This all happened within a month. I had the injection six months after the start of this, so four years seems an awfully long time to wait for it.

In between the four years I've had other injections for chronic pain but my shoulder needs special attention and without ins I couldn't afford it.

Sounds like your condition and joint problems are a result of wear and tear rather than rheumatoid arthritis or other inflammatory disease so possibly this is not the best site for discussion about surgery, other treatments or drugs. Treatments for rheumatoid disease are very different. Try a Google search to see if there is a support group which focuses more on wear and tear type injuries.

All the best and here's hoping you have speedy relief from your pain.

I didn't realize this site was just for ppl with RA

It is mainly related to inflammatory arthritis, but that in itself causes joint damage just the same as age/wear and tear, so some people will have had operations and be able to advise you.

Hiya buttascotch! Don't know if you remember but I replied to your post asking about Disability? Whilst this is the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society's site there are a lot of crossovers & therapy with musculoskeletal issues, for example I & many others here also have Osteoarthritis so it's likely others here will recognise your problems so you're very welcome here. It is worth the question with your PC though just what is the root cause of your problems, that is if you haven't already.
