New year and all that

Someonesmother profile image
27 Replies

Well I have finished the year with the added bonus of having mini strokes and having to lose lots of weight fast. I finally came off prednisone after nearly three years and ballooning to 126kg. After 9 weeks I am down to 115kg. Still fat, but I hope I keep going in the right direction.

I hope you all had a happy Christmas and New Year.

Happy new year to you and a healthier one as well.xxxx

Wow well done on the weight loss. I'm doing ok on slimming world, but suspect the last week may have had a few too many guilty pleasures( cheese!)

But I'm sure you will feel great and get benefit this summer !

Have a great new year X

We are mid summer now. Back to work on Monday so my summer is over really hahahaha. It is more to give the new cardiologist a rude two finger salute as he told me to starve two days a week and I told him that was a stupid way to lose weight and I will do it my way.

Lol of course it's summer there, oh I so NEED some sunshine and heat!

Yes this new starve diet is popular with doctors , I just am not strong enough and my diabetes is do rubbish to keep controlled anyway it would just be a bit to ackward ! But keep going , we could update each other !

He wanted me on less than 300 calories two days a week. I told him he was joking. So I have just done it my way.

Yeah fad diets that are the latest thing are just stupid. You certainly shouldn't be doing them with diabetes it would play havoc with you.

Yes ! Liking slimming world here as they are a nice group and you get to eat loads , I'm one and s half stone down now in six weeks!

Well good work. You must be proud of that! I just looked up Kg to Lb and it is almost as much as I have lost. woo hoo .

Not sure what slimming world is but probably like one of the weight loss agencies here. I just stopped eating sugar and restricting fat intake. Can't exercise as I hurt too much and I am exhausted from full time work, so if the cardiologist suggests I start walking or something I may just hit him.

They always say swimming ! I say ok can you help me get my costume on and off then lol!!!

Didn't work on my Physio tho who said yes I can arrange that and promptly put me down for hydrotherapy ! Actually looking forward to it and hoping to get this chest sorted before I get the appointment through!

Someonesmother in reply to allanah

Hahaha yep and help me in and out of the pool. I can't even have a bath because I can't lift my legs to get in and god forbid I actually wanted to get out again.

Yeah they talk about hydro to me to but when would I go? I work full time and that is the only time they do it, apart from the fact I hate those germ filled pools so would never do it anyway. YUK. yes make sure you have your chest under control before going in to the water.

allanah in reply to Someonesmother

Lol! They have a hoist and it's heated but yes I share the germ worries particularly in those change rooms, hate them, but she's " prescribed" it so I'd better do as I'm told( for a change) !

Noooooo I would feel like a side of beef being hoisted in to the boiling water to cook. hahahah

Nope still wouldn't go regardless what they say. You just would never get me in a pool

Someonesmother in reply to hatshepsut

I will never do it as I hate pools and work full time. Never going to be an option for me.

Hi S.O.M.,

Sorry to hear that you've not been well and congratulations on being able to reduce your weight whilst not being too well - that is a major feat and should be applauded - "WELDONE YOU!" :)

I hope things are on an upward trend for you and all the best for this coming year

I will be fine, I am on anti coagulants for life now. not having to spend a great portion of my income on medical things this year would be really good. I hope I get a break this year.

Well done for the weight loss SOM and a very happy new year to you. Twitchy Xxxx

Yes I knew as soon as I got off steroids I would be able to lose weight. I hope the new year brings good things for you.

Congratulations! That's brilliant! My diet starts on Monday. I'm 98kg and fat. Unfortunately I'm still on steroids and see no end to them because I'm taking them because of my RA and lung condition. Keep up the good work.

Someonesmother profile image
Someonesmother in reply to helenlw7

Yes it is almost impossible to lose weight inn steroids. I don't eat that much but everything turned to fat on me. I will probably have to go back on them for short bursts as I get terrible bronchitis in winter but hopefully I will never have to go on them full time again.

helenlw7 profile image
helenlw7 in reply to Someonesmother

I'm determined not to let the steroids be at me this time! My lung consultant told me that I would probably be on low dose steroids for rest of my life because I've been on them for so long and my body will longer produce steroid hormone naturally.

That makes it hard doesn't it. But all we can do is our best to keep the weight down. I ended up with Cushings Syndrome which is why I had to come off them.

What a way to end the year but sounds like you are on track and starting off better for 2016. All the best! Doreen
