I had a bakers cyst behind both knees, the left one I've been told has burst, my left calf swelled up but the Rheumy said it will be reabsorbed. I still have the right one. My whole knee area becomes very tight, I have a lot of pain in my right knee. They will only do something about them if they become very painful.

Thanks for your reply. The nurse i saw said it could be down to poor management of my rheumatoid arthritis treatment.Who knows if it,s not one thing it,s another.

Thanks for your reply,i,was advised to take painkillers and rest as much as possible.Having RA i,m on painkillers anyway.Because the cyst has burst the pain should ease in a few weeks.

It was a burst bakers cyst that eventually led to my diagnosis of RA. I really do sympathise as it was just about the worst pain I had ever experienced. Had 5 different diagnoses including thrombo phlebitis (paraffin wax bandage from ankle to thigh for a week), sciatica (morphine injections at A&E), DVT (in hospital for a weekend having blood thinning injections as scanner not available at weekends). It was the scan which eventually showed it and I was referred to an orthopod who referred me on to rheumatology. Apparently bakers cysts are quite common in RA patients . The only positive I can add is that that was 10 years ago and I have never had a problem with it again. I do hope the pain soon goes.

Thanks for your reply. The doctor did think it was a dvt, thankfully it was a cyst.iv,e had RAfor eleven years but it,s only now i seem to be getting everything.Thankfully the pain has eased and hopefully i won,t get another one.keep well.

Yes had very large bakers cysts behind both knees which spontaneously ruptured. Ended up in a&e with them treating me as having a dvt as my lower leg so swollen and painful. Told them I had felt my BC rupture. Eventually went home after they agreed with my diagnosis. The pain and the swelling gradually went away and luckily the cysts haven't returned, that was 20+ years ago.
