In addition to my previous post, I meant to add that, after looking up this condition, it talks about spinal problems where as hers are in finger, wrists and ankles, which are so painful it is making her cry

I'm not sure which post you're referring to but no matter. Are you sure spondylitis is the correct term? Spondylosis (similar sounding but quite different condition) has the ability to affect the extremities. I have both cervical & lumbar spondylosis & it affects my arms, hands & feet, including my ankles. Maybe a read of this may throw some more light on symptoms patient.info/health/cervica...
RA gets at the material in the joints, the discs between vertebrae in the spine are similar material. Mine were damaged by RA and started to compress the spinal cord. An MRI scan will reveal the extent of the problem and provide guidance as to whether conservative treatment or surgery is appropriate, left untreated for too long, the damage can become permanent. I don't know what the criteria are before the consultant asks for an MRI. Good luck.
