Epidural spinal block injection

Has anyone had side effects or success of pain reduction after receiving an epidural spinal block injection? I am scheduled to receive an injection tomorrow.

A friend of mine had one some years ago, never looked back (sorry!) since. But I have heard variable results.

Hi, had right and left sided pain block, first one lasted 10 weeks but second injections lasted for 6 months of being pain free!! I am having a nerve ablation in August and that should give me up to a year with no pain. It worked for me but my consultant told me that people get different levels of relief as we all react differently to these type of injections!! All the best and hope you get good pain relief.😆

Hi, I have had several epidural, but I don't know if it is the same type. I had sciatica down the right side caused by a prolapsed disc. The bulge was huge and the specialist referred me to a surgeon after seeing the MRI results. It was the worst he had seen and thought I would have had surgery that week.

I still haven't had surgery as I didn't have the side effects that come with a prolapsed disc which has now shrunk back. I still have low back pain but only when I am standing for more than 15 mins at a time. It is now I'm told it is down to wear and tear from the prolapsed disc. The epidural I had was a big relief and lasted from approx 6 months, the last one I had was January this year.

I have had several and they were guided ones with-ray equipment and dye, done by a Pain Relief Specialist. The first one I had done whilst I was awake and it hurt but the second one I chose to be knocked out for a few minutes with the Medazolam, (if they offer it take it as it was good and got you through the painful bit, without you realising what was happening much, although I cannot say it was excruciating when awake, it was not that bad.) They injected me with Kenalog and some local anaesthetic or other, and it lasted six weeks, every time they did it. I hope this helps and wish you all the best.

Hi, it was a pain specialist that did mine. He gave me the epidural in 3 doses and I could feel it going down my leg but I wouldn't say I felt any pain. Some specialist do it in one dose and they feel some pain for a second or two. It all depends on the specialist. We use to have a laugh as he would say you can scream now knowing I didn't need to.

Even though I have moved out of the area, if I need to have another epidural, I will go back to see him.

Hi, I had my first spinal epidural a month ago, it was not straightforward but it was wonderful to have no pain. I have no idea how long it will last. I was trying to come off Gapepentin, Baclofen and Imiprimin I had none yesterday but took 2 paracetamol. Last night I had nerve pains down my legs - scary. Back in the tablets till I see the consultant in a month. It is worth having the Epidural. Anything to get rid of the pain.

Hi I’ve had several procedures on my back the most successful were the ablations .I found the epidurals worked for a short time the ablations have helped . I have permanent nettle pain on my bottom as if I’ve sat in nettles and the skin is sore to touch . But within 6 weeks of the last procedure I was walking a lot better and the pain was tolerable . Good luck with this 💐
