Guilty Pleasures and What makes you feel better on days that you feel like pulling the covers back over your head?

What non- medicine things help you when your body hurts ?

Everybody has a guilty pleasure that makes you feel better...Mine is

getting a pedicure or manicure these days, What's yours??

Any good reads regarding RA or just for fun?

When I feel rough pull up the drawbridge and let no one inside, lie on my bed with a snuggle blanket that keeps me warm, and my cat lies near the bit that hurts so I get his heat as well, shut my eyes and lie there till it ebbs away. For meals its delivery from the local takeaways.

When it's just a bad day like today, I either read a book that I've read before, (don't have to concentrate on story), or put on a DVD and watch that. For food today it will be cold meat with oven chips.

But when it's a good day, yes will have that manicure, or visit to the hairdresser. I love my hairdresser, he is so camp and loves a good chin wag, a visit is as good as seeing pals. I think have covered all basis of this disease of ours.

Had to cancel holidays(2) last year so have been having manicure every two weeks when fit! Got to keep up morale 😀

Guilty pleasures? Ice-cream and eating my pudding before the main part of a meal :) I am a trained reflexologist amongst other things (only use it on myself, family & friends) so a bath with essential oils followed by a self hand treatment is a great. Sitting in the garden in the winter sun wrapped in a 4 season sleeping bag supping real coffee and listening to radio is a definite treat.

Book? I am currently reading Christine Schwad's autobiography about being diagnosed with RA, finding effective treatment and coming to terms with it - title? "Take me home from the Oscars; Arthritis, television, fashion and me."

And then I enjoy reading poetry because my eye condition makes it hard to read for any length of time thus poetry is ideal (I also write poetry now and again so reading it helps me generate ideas for my own writing).

Ali, yesterday I had a tub of Hagen Das 'vanilla caramel brownie' ice cream FOR MY DINNER.....lovely! I was never much into ice cream tbh but since I have had RD I find it very satisfying but it has to be a 'good' ice cream non of this 500g tubs for £2.00.......the real thing or nothing.....

Anything (almost) out in the sunshine. And am addicted to charity shops these days - a real find gives me quite a buzz!

I love to read, but on bad days it's definitely fluffier books that I've read before. Gluten-free lemon squares from the corner cafe (called the marmalade cat!) and yet another little bag of exotic tea. My less guilty pleasure is a lovely hot bath with ylang-ylang and rose and clary sage oils. My tub is big enough that if I sit in the right spot my legs and arms can float. Ahhhhhhh.

Azabat, I LOVE your term "Fluffier books" - does that mean

love stories or real true romance? I love those kinds too.

When I have to ice my back after stretches or working out

then I read those kinds. I also read up on HU- some of the

old stuff. Boy oh boy do I see myself fit in many of their stories

and their testing, their lives. If only we could plug into some old

pod casts of their recommendations. then I would be all set for

the day.

I like fantasy mixed with a little romance, Mercedes Lackey is usually my go-to, followed by Terry Pratchett. I've read these books so many times that I know what's next, and it's like getting dessert twice :)

I have a massage and facial with scalp massage. Feel great the next day. Last year I had terrible neck and shoulder,had been seeing NHS physio for 2 months it was absolutely no use to me and ineffective. Went for massage explained my problems and wow she was brilliant. My neck and shoulders haven't felt this good for 25 yrs. I still go there and I'm never disappointed. Am I spoiling myself or am I self managing? Why can't we have this on the NHS could save a lot of physio appointments.

I so agree with you!! I have been sent to physio several times and it's been a total waste! I'm sure they have their place but I find them useless. Much prefer the chiropractor (or massage) but they cost and I can rarely afford it.

Actually getting dressed, putting on make up and doing hair makes me feel good even if I'm not seeing anyone or going anywhere!. Wrapping up warm and hobbling to a sheltered seat in the sun in the garden with a steaming cup of tea. Listening to the birds singing, seeing the daffodils bobbing in the wind and the blossom on the trees......very relaxing and uplifting!

IF my hair looks good, I feel better. Make up helps too and so does a lot of lotions. I try to care for my skin and to look as normal as I used to prior to illness. I love to have my nails and toes painted and filed. My me time is emailing and goofing around on the computer. I play a game or two and also talk on the phone to my mother usually.
