Hi, Craggy I also had similar problems. I came off MTX went onto leflunomide with Humira injections & at present I am the best I can be. I was always told there are other options so I hope you find this too. Love Alison xx

When I came off early on, they tried to put me on Leflunomide but my BP was to high. So I went back on MTX and have been fine for two years now, but now I am suffering chest pains and breathing problems and my new GP thinks MTX too high, as my bloods don't show any signs of RA or should I say my ESR AND CRP are normal and have been for at least 18months.I am on 20mg MTX inj.

ps its caggy not craggy though its possible i feel that way sometimes!!!

Hi Caggy or is it Craggy today! That made us laugh in the helpline. Anyway, sorry to hear that you are having a bit of a rough time at the moment. As has been mentioned already, there may be other possibilites that you can discuss with you rheumatology team to do with medication. There is no one treatment or dose that works for everyone and it can be a bit of trial and error sometimes. Please do speak to your team about things and as always, check before you do anything with your medication.

Regards

Beverley ( NRAS Helpline)

Oh thank you for your reply. I was just wondering if anyone else had been told to come off MTX because of lung problems and what was the outcome. I have been free of symptoms for at least 18mths but my consultant refused to reduce meds last year and this year my appointment was moved 18mths hence, my new Gp told me to complain and ask to be seen sooner said he would back me up as he feels the dose is too high for someone without visible symptoms.

Whatever you do, do it gradually

Phone your consultants secretary and explain your problems or your hospital helpline if you have one. It's best they know what's happening and can advise you. Xx

Thanks for that Allanah, I wrote tuesday when my Gp suggested, so just waiting for reply; I know \i could ring but they still have to speak to consultant, at least this way the letter goes straight to him. I have been de-registered from my gp practice along with 1700 others this all happpened when I was being investigated with chest pain and been referered for angiogram, which has been done and shows no heart problems. not once has my previous surgery called me to ask how I was feeling knowing how worried I was; so it was refreshing to find a gp who wanted to listen, he wanted to know why I haddnt had a chest xray or been given inhalers as that is what I was telling them, that i was short of breath and wheezing. Still the change looks like it could be a good one.
