I climbed a mountain! A little positive post

A couple of weeks ago i climbed Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain, it took 2 and a half hours up and an hour and a half down, hard going and exhausted at the end! But well worth it, the best bit was sitting in the hotels hot tub at the end of the day. When I was diagnosed in 2013, weeks after giving birth to my daughter and hardly able to move or do up the poppers on her babygrows, I never thought I'd be back to normal ever again. Yes I'm taking these horrible meds but I manage to put it all to the back of my mind 95% of the time! get out there, drink wine! enjoy my kids and live this life. Hope this gives someone, especially newly diagnosed, some hope that things get better :-)

Hi Natja

Fantastic news and thankyou so much for this positive post, what a great achievement! Bet that hot tub and glass of wine felt extra special for you.

It's hard to stay positive in the early days of this disease but stories like this are really inspiring .......thankyou x

I can only second Beaches2's post. Gives hope to us all. Bet the view was glorious, as long it wasn't a "rainy lakes" day. Bear in mind though it was those horrible meds that gave you the freedom & opportunity. And sheer determination of course! Well done.

Hi there

What an achievement, you should be proud of yourself. Gives me hope that one day I'll have this RD under enough control to be able to do something like that. Scafell has been on my hit list for a long time. Such a positive for you and thank you for sharing with us.

Well done you ... I know from experience that SP is no walk in the park and I can just about begin to imagine the feelings when you reached the summit. Spectacular view (provided it wasn't too cloudy) Lake District is a wonderful place - hope you got some nice pictures to look back on. Good luck on your journey as this was just another milestone alone your path.

I guess this is one of the greatest gifts of this group, that every once in a while, someone else's story will be inspiring hope in others. The light at the end of that tunnel is not an oncoming train, its a symbol for a brighter future, no matter how bumpy the ride :-)

What a brilliant thing to do. I used to do long distance walking and I miss it but do find other ways to connect. I very happy for you

Well done! I too was diagnosed last year and climbed Snowden just after my first steroid jab. I climbed Pen y fan a few weeks ago too after meds finally starting to manage the symptoms. What I would say is if your symptoms are not under control to do most of what you want to do then keep pushing there are lots of treatments out there.

Well done on climbing Scarfell Pike. I haven't had a chance to do that for a while. I am not often enough in Carlisle to visit my parents, but hopefully will be in the Lakes over the summer.

Well done, its a tough climb, I live about 10 minutes from it and used to be up the fells every weekend but my RA has been too bad for the last 4 years as I've failed all anti tnfs and biologics there are as I either have an allergic reaction or produce antibodies to them almost straight away. Its like a form of torture being able to see them all the time and not go up them!
