Hi Cacs1.... Just a question, may I ask what makes you think it could be thyroid?...I know Thyroid is linked to RA....I've had goitre issues and had most removed back in 1995, how bad is your RA..I'm sure Thyroid problems don't cause swollen thumbs, but RA does . I would,d say it's the RA doing that......maybe others can give you more help...

Usually with RA the swelling of the joints affects both sides of the body. Swelling on one side could be an infection in the joint if no other joints affected, or it could be gout, pseudo-gout, acute inflammatory reaction from a general viral or bacterial infection infection, or osteoarthritis which sometimes presents in this was, or .......

Unfortunately, as most of us have found out, diagnosis of joint swelling is really difficult and can take some time!

Thanks old timer for getting back to me so soon, appreciate your input.
