sorry you are suffering but glad I'm not the only one. Do find not consuming food or drink too hot - in fact quite cool - helps.

I began to get ulcers and mouth sores when I was on higher doses (20 25mg). Now on biologic therapy and only 10mg mtx and problem has gone away. Might be worth using a good mouthwash regularly as I found it helped. What dose of folic acid are you on? This mitigates the side effects of mtx might be worth getting this reviewed.

I am finding more sensitivity in my mouth and teeth. I am gargling twice a day with mouthwash to help control it. I heard doing the same with salt water helps as well. I am VERY dentist phobic, so I am hoping this controls things.

Good mouthwash, like Eludril, rather than the Listerine type which don't do much. Or salt, as that's a load cheaper. Aloe Vera juice also helps, as does the antiseptic lozenges you get for sore throats (I used to gobble the boots sugar free ones with anti specific and analgesic in them). And yes, make sure the dose of folic acid you're taking is right.

But eventually it all got too much for me as was having problems eating because it was so uncomfortable, I was swapped from tablets to injected MTX and the ulcers vanished in about 10 days! So might be worth talking to your rheumy team. Polly

hi hun, I suffered terrible mouth ulcers when I was started on mtx and a continuous "tinny" taste in my mouth. My consultant was very good and swopped me straight away to mtx injections and to this day ive never looked back. I hope this helps, kind regards, Dee xx

Hello. I sometimes get mouth ulcers. They are dreadful I know. Cleaning teeth was horrendous. They went all over mouth. I am a retired Dental Nurse and the best thing for them is mouth wash with salt. Have the water as hot as you can stand it....put in salt...if you still feel you.d like to use mouth wash...use corrsodyl...I is the best...some of them you pay loads of money for nothing. I do hope they go soon but please try to still clean your teeth, it is so important. Have an ice cube ready and wipe it over infected areas, it will def help...I hope it does anyway!!!!!!!!

I found that chewing gum really helped soothe it. Also my gp prescribed hydrocortisone tablets which you press against ulcers and suck - they taste foul but they speed up healing. I've moved onto jabs now because the side effects were so bad and they have improved so don't just put up with it - mention it when you go to your appointments. Good luck.

Sorry I've just read my mail to you I which I said to put salt in mouthwash....what I meant to say was salt in hot water however the hot water will probably hurt your mouth so go to a temp that you can bear. If it goes on you should let your clinical nurse know but I'm on MTX and still go through phase where I have them.

I did when the dose was increased from 20 to 25 mg. took about 6 weeks to subside after reducing the mtx dose back to 20. I then tried to go up to 25 again with the same result. Very sore tongue and users made it painful to eat. On humeria and 15 mg mtx now and the RA is much better controlled and in remission.

Are you taking folic acid 2 days after the methotrexate ? This is when it is at the lowest level. Something that works for me if I get ulcers is eating fresh pineapple, sounds crazy but it works !

I was given Biotene mouth gel, dentist recommended it but GP had to prescribe it. Helps with dry mouth, and ulcers, also tenderness from "Geographic" tongue

Did your doctor also put you on folic acid, it helps with mouth sores. After that didn't help me he put me on Leucovorin and it also was very helpful
