Hi - back again

Hi everyone. Was on this site a number of years ago when I last quit. Stopped for about 3 years and then gradually slipped back - the classic "One won't hurt", usually after a drink. I have tried quitting numerous times since going back on the dreaded things but failed to keep it going. I realise that the support and encouragement from this group is what I need. today is only Day 2 but I am determined to make it last this time

Welcome back Sligolad62 !! Congratulations on hopefully 3 days now:? Wishing you strength, focus and determination to make this the one that sticks, ya can do it!

PS Like your username, are you Irish? I'm from the midlands in Ireland :)

Hi Roisin. Last time I was on I was FordyP but it had been so long I had to change my username. Half - Irish - mum was from Sligo. Good to speak to you again and glad to see that your quit is still so strong. I wobbled in a celebratory drunken moment after 3 1/2 years. How are the gang - Nozmo Hercu LIzzy etc

Ah FordyP Sligolad62 , was trying to remember when seen your new name as the Sligo connection rang a bell with me!!

Hope you and all the family are keeping well, great we have all come out the other side and survived the Pandemic.

Sorry about the wobble, but I have no doubt you will succeed again as you are determined and focused. I will be coming up to 7 years smoke free next month, surprisingly, still get the odd want for 'just the one' but it passes after a minute or so... I am also alcohol free 2 years in a few months and wish I done it years ago as I am in such a better place mentally now....

The community has got alot more quieter and not much engagement as a result.., Hercu Nozmo Dizzylizzytaketwo do pop their heads in now and again, Hercu had some health issues but think he was on the road to recovery,,,,

Roisin, 7 years is very impressive and off the booze too - a huge achievement. It is a shame that the community is so much quieter - is it me or is it harder to find on-line now? But good to hear that you and the old guard are all doing well (I hope that Hercu @continues his recovery). My slip was pretty stupid but determined to stop again. Turning to happier news it is my daughter’s wedding next week which is very exciting - can’t quite believe how grown up she is now - nearly 30.

It can very easily happen Fordy...you certainly can do it again.

Oh that's very exciting indeed your daughter getting married, hope ya have the 'Father of the Bride' speech sorted! My little sister had a baby girl back in January which was a great start to the new year. Just back from a weeks holidays doing the wild Atlantic Way and stayed in Sligo for a night, it was like being abroad with record temperatures reaching over 30 degrees!

I have the community bookmarked but just tried there looking it up and you're right, it is very hard to find!

Alright Fordy? I got a notification to say somebody was following me so I had to come on and have a look in case it was someone dodgy. Turns out it is 😀

Good to hear from you mate but sorry to hear you’re back on them. It’s easy done. I need my beauty sleep now but I’ll check in to see how you’re doing.

Evening RoisinO1 ! Hope you’re keeping well?

Nozmo great to hear from you. Hope that life in the North East is good. I did the Pennine Way over the last 12 months (half last year and half this year) so wasn’t a million miles away - Northumberland is beautiful. Being back on the smokes was incredibly stupid after I had done so well - it was the classic I’ll just have one and then the drift into smoking when I had had a few. I can’t even blame Covid as really the pandemic had petered out - I need to stop now before it inevitably gets to a stage where I am smoking full time again! I hope that the family are all ok

The family is good thanks, and we have actually had some decent weather this summer for a change (not the temperatures you have had thankfully) so even Northumberland is looking a bit parched.

I've fallen for the "just one won't hurt" thing a few times in past quits and it has always led to getting back into the full time routine. I've been off them for over 6 years now though and it just doesn't bother me anymore. I do however occasionally get the odd nostalgic mini craving if get a whiff of somebody smoking.

How's it going so far? Are you going cold turkey?

Thanks Nozmo. Yes going cold turkey again. Day 5 successfully negotiated. Had a trip down to visit my dad with my sisters today to get him a suit for the wedding - he is 85. I know what you mean about the expense of the wedding but the stress amongst some of the family members is perhaps a bigger concern on the quitting front. The father of the bride speech has been written and I am certain to cry when I deliver it but hey what the heck it will be an emotional day and I am sure everyone will forgive a tear here or there. Glad to hear that your daughter seems settled - hope that she isn’t giving her dad too hard a time of it. I will keep you posted on how the quit is going. So far so good but then I remember my meltdown in Geneva after a family ski trip last time so am trying not to be too complacent

Good man, glad it’s still on track. I remember the Geneva meltdown very well. The main thing is you have done it all before so you know what to expect. You’re certainly allowed to cry on your daughter’s wedding day! I’ll be in pieces when my turn comes. Try not to sob uncontrollably though...and don’t blow your nose on her wedding dress...and definitely no cigars!

You have identified all of my major concerns - snot and cigars!

Hey Nozmo , good to hear from you, I'm grand thanks! Just cooling down after a week long heatwave!! Hope yourself and the family are keeping well? Will be able to get some tips from Fordy as have it all ahead of ya with your daughter getting married!!

Nozmo profile image
NozmoValued Contributor in reply to RoisinO1

Yeah we’re all well Roisin, thanks for asking. My daughter is twenty now and very serious with her boyfriend. She can’t marry him yet though as I can’t afford it 😀

Good to read Nozmo , god, that's a terror you're daughter is 20!! I remember you talking about her when she was in her mid teens, time is just flying by! Hope your son is doing well too?

My son’s 16 now, and 6ft 4! We’re waiting on his GCSE results to see if he can do the college course he wants to do. Time flies.

Hi Fordy, glad to see you back. I hope it is going well. 7 years for me next week. But I still carry an e-cig when I go to a bar. The cartridge lasts a year and I rarely use it, but it's a mental thing when I'm around smokers.

I'm sure your wedding speech went swimmingly. I hate giving speeches.

Roison, Nozmo, glad to hear you are both well. All good here. NYC still feeling the effects of the lockdown. People not wanting to commute to work, less tourists.

Be well all.
