Quitting smoking is a brain game, you need to have control. I had been smoking from past 18 years, I use to smoke daily 6-7 cigarettes. Once my friend told about the QuitSure App ( Android in google play store) I was not sure but installed and tried it, without harming my body it worked . Now I'm Nonsmoker.

That's really nice, but this process doesn't work for a long time. Craving and trigger points are fixed in your mind, so I hope you should succeed in your process of quitting smoking.

Hi, I've been off them for almost 6 years now - here's what I found useful:

Keeping busy is a great idea so you're off to a good start. Maybe take up a new hobby or go on a fitness regime to help fill in the time?

Prepare yourself for some "trigger points", when you will get cravings. These are situations that you associate with smoking. For me it was going to the pub, lunchtime at work, getting home from work...all situations when I always used to smoke. Have a think about situations when you will think about smoking and put plans in place for how to combat the craving.

Get an app on your phone which tracks your progress. It can be a big incentive. It will tell you how your health is improving and how much money you have saved. I've just looked at mine for the first time in years and apparently I've saved £12,818. That's how much I would have spent on cigarettes if I had stayed as a smoker, and that's based on 2016 prices!

Don't suffer in silence - tell people if you're struggling. The fellow quitters on this forum helped me out enormously.

If you fail don't beat yourself up about, just try again. It's a learning process and, like all other learning processes, you get better at it with time. Not everyone can quit just like that and never look back. The more you do it, the more you realise what mistakes you made. I tried quitting several times before I got to the one that stuck. I'm not suggesting this as a strategy, just saying it isn't the end of the world if you fail. You just have to try again.

Consider different aids/methods for quitting. During my time here I have known people who have successfully quit using lots of different approaches - cold turkey, nicotine patches, vaping, Alan Carr approach, Champix, chewing gum, spray etc. If you can quit cold turkey that's absolutely brilliant but (in my opinion) it's not cheating to use a bit of help. I used a vape pen and some people told me I was just substituting one addiction for another but it really helped me get off the cigarettes...and once I was comfortable with not smoking, I stopped vaping. 6 years later I'm neither smoking or vaping. Everyone has different approaches to doing this and I think using the approach that is right for you is important - not the one that other people tell you you should use.

I can't think of anything else at the minute but I hope that helps. Well done for getting through the first day and I hope it continues!
