Hideous weekend !

If I had known how bad I was going to feel I would not have taken the last patch off. Geesh - it was like the first day I stopped smoking all over again. And there was nothing I could do about it. I ran, I drank water, I ended up driving around in tears. I was constantly sweating and the anxiety - Gezuz in the jam jar..... I guess my body really really wants nicotine. A bit better this morning thank God. I must be close to the end of these terrible final withdrawl sysmptons, right? Right!

Thanks ! Im just waiting it out trying to get my work done. And my work this week is interviewing political candidates in an upcoming election...so you can only imagine how annoying that's going to be.

Hey KatNL - you are in the thick of the mental battle now as your mind and body are in the gradual process of rewiring, repairing and recovering from now no longer getting its nicotine fix. Mr. Nico will be nagging for a while longer but I promise, you are getting stronger each day to fight him off. Continue to keep busy, drinking loads and loads of water and keep reading here especially the pinned posts, in particular below:

Thanks Roisin, It's hard for me to identify what's happening. I know the weekend must have been the final withdrawl from the nicotine. Wow, in a way worse than the first day I quit. NO nicotine at all, I just have huge anxiety and am sweating again at night (this could be nicotine withdrawl plus my age plus these mega anxiety vitimans I am taking I guess) . It is a bit better since the weekend. But still there. I feel I am doing all I can- taking stress vitimans, walking everyday, really challenging myself physically at run club, cut waaay back on coffee , working .... Its not that I want a smoke. I dont want anything except to stop feeling this wretched. Is that what you mean? The reason Im not smoking is that I just can't go through this again. It's a big chunk of time to feel so unsettled and bizarre.

Hey KatNL - as advised when you first joined us here, unfortunately the physical withdrawal from nicotine is the easy part and just takes the few days for it to leave our bodies. The mental withdrawal from nicotine is the hard part but as each day passes, it will get easier with cravings less severe and frequent especially as you overcome different situations smoke free.

As anxiety appears to be your main issue, I would suggest in cutting out coffee altogether. I couldn't even manage a full cup before a major anxiety episode rared its ugly head, was even a bit afraid to take a cup of tea so limited myself to just one cup of tea a day :O

Not sure if I told you about this meditation app but has thousands of titles to deal and help with every scenario people encounter, the anxiety one appears to be excellent and worth a listen to:

Also, it is worth remembering, even non smokers experience anxiety and it may not be as a result of nicotine withdrawal especially if not easing as time passes. Perhaps, look at your daily routine and see if there is anything else that could trigger the anxiety other than not smoking....

Thanks. And yes for sure, Im really starting to get how and what I used smoking for.

Hi KatNL those are the signs there is still nicotine on your system .

Once you are clean of evil nicotine , your life will be much easier ..drink water but don’t exceed you don’t want to wash out important minerals for brain function .

I used to suck on iced fruit or ice popsicles ..for some reason it keeps you entertained and your throat will feel great and refreshed .

Give your body freedom from thousands of chemicals !

Very important get busy all the time .your mind needs to be entertained at all the times the first weeks .

Read a lot about quitting benefits .

Keep it up !

thats exactly what happened to me when I stopped the patches,....it was horrendous, just like the first day of not smoking as you said, I really battled to cope for a few days....and then, it got better, took time so hang in there, you can do it!!

Thanks for letting me know this happened to you as well. It is better now a week later, although Im still in lala land as far as concentration and anxiety goes. Just puttting in time.....

LOL I am in "lala" land most of the time....with the anxiety and concentration...sure you saw my post yesterday where I walked out of a shop without paying for a jersey...think thats what gets me the most lately...the brain fog....but listening to others on this site, it does pass, so am hanging in there each day....waiting...anxiously....hoping LOL xxx
