Hi there. Just need to mark two months quit with a post. Very happy with saving so much $$, with low carb and my discovery of 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene on YouTube. I have some down moments where I wonder what perks are left but then I remind myself that’s an addict’s way of thinking. Huge ‘perk’ is feeling in control and looking forward to my vacation. Thx to Roisin and others and for this wonderful site !

Think the slang word is 'brolly' Jwk1962 - we would use that here in Ireland :D

Well done, congratulations. We are about at the same point in our recovery and it certainly feels good. Apart from saving so much money it’s the freedom I think that is soooo good don’t you agree. Was wondering are you still on the full dosage of Champix?

Hi 2217 - thank you, the freedom is great. I quit Champix last Sunday. About 3 days in, after stopping the Champix, I started sleeping like a baby. Zero cravings for cigarettes. I'm staying mindful cravings can lurk in the background and jump out at us in the weirdest of places. So I'm staying 'on guard'.

So pleased for you and the money we save is ridiculous. Sorry to be a pain but I’m still taking the full dose of Champix as I’m worried I will blow it. Did you cut down first or just stop. I’m really scared all the cravings will come back and I will light up.

No I totally understand the conundrum. We are all so unique in how we react to certain drugs. My doctor said just quit the Champix cold turkey, don't have to even wean off the stuff. I did as he said and it's been 100% perfectly fine. No cravings. I mean the nicotine is long out of our system by now, right? So the only craving we might have is not physiological, it's just psychological and that's where our own will power comes in. I'm sleeping better, not as depressed (that was awful for me) and my bowel movements have improved which prolly also improves mood ha ha. Whatever you decide, whether to wean off or quit Champix cold turkey, I think you will stay quit on the smoking.

Thanks so much for the info. It’s just the last few days I have had such cravings and I’m really scared about cutting down on the pills or stopping as to how I will react. My counselor said cut the evening one out and I refused. I really am showing no confidence in myself am I. Perhaps try tomorrow Erving and see how I go.

Congratulations, you are sounding so positive.

These are my stats below - its shameful and scary the money I spent on cigarettes, but suppose I would have spent it on something else, money I have saved went on a 4 star holiday back in 2016, renovating the house, buying stuff for the house on a monthly basis, eating out more and buying utensils for my cooking and baking which would not be able to be done if still smoking :)

OMG the number of people who've died from a smoking related illness since quitting smoking ... that one is shocking. If your list isn't reason enough to quit I don't know what is. That's cool you're in Ireland. Never met an Irish person I didn't like ha ha.

Woo way to go. . Think I'm also around the 50 day mark, supposed to use champix for another 3 weeks. Last 2 weeks I will use the initial pack backwards, so it is a gradual tail off. I dare not stop them early, like 2217, I'm too scared of a relapse. I don't have cravings, but I have stopped before and resumed out of badness rather than desperation, so taking all possible precautions. The money saved is extraordinary, and I do use it for lovely treats. I always used to say that I didn't care about the money! What an idiot I was. Money to burn. Literally.

I feel that champix removed the cravings, but I used the space that created to really properly think about what smoking meant to me, and then take down all the nonsense, like rebellion, creativity etc. What it did was mess up my brain so I was always stressed and angry and then provide a fleeting relief. I never sorted anything out properly, so much easier to go off and smoke.

Stopping feels a bit like waking up after a big party with all the clearing up to do. Finally at 59, I am an adult.

ha ha I so enjoyed reading your post. I turn 57 next month and so I feel you. Us middle aged folks can still learn. And I also relate to the 'rebellion' as I've always had a healthy streak of that in my life. I'm trying to find new ways to 'rage against the machine' LOL

Yes, by all means, do what makes sense to you personally on the Champix. There is no wrong or right. Except to stay QUIT from nasty smokes.

Well done Quit4Money I do understand why people count the days and suchlike. You are a couple of months stopped. You ain't a smoker any more. You drew a line and stepped over it. So you are over it, outta sight and lost beyond the horizon. Smoking cannot catch up with you... it can hardly draw breath let alone run. How on Earth could you even consider walking back to it... ever? It is far behind now. Even "pangs" and "cravings" are simply imaginary. Imagine something more pleasant instead! Your smoking is History.

I'll be 13 years beyond that lost horizon come March 2019.

Stay cool Quit4Money. Sometimes we cannot see the wood for the trees. There is no "quitting journey" to embark on. The "smoking journey" is over by a couple of months for you. Over and out.

Two simple rules.

1. Never put a cigarette or tobacco product in your mouth ever again.

2. Never spend a penny on any tobacco product ever again.

My dear, late and much missed brother gave me those two rules thirteen years ago right around this time of January during the worst month of both of our lives. Those two simple rules have never failed me. Stick to them and just get on with your wonderful life, do good stuff and have fun.

Smoking was a daft "hobby" so just forget you ever devoted so much time and hard-earned money applying yourself to it. Love your life and live it.
